Mvieguy, I apologize if I got on your nerve, but I did not mean to be pain in the a**. Please you don't have to hold the contest to prove that the date for Super 8 is indeed October 18th. I believe you, which is why I asked you. If I didn't believe you I would not be wasting your time.

Once again I was not challenging Mvieguy's date.
I didn't think of you when I made my post. I was just trying to give mvieguy a chuckle based strictly on his joking about giving something away if he was wrong. I've heard Super 8 is moving, just like a lot of people. I'm nervously waiting for it to get announced. And, he was wrong on my favorite film of the summer, Bridesmaids, which was kind of funny.

So, honestly, I was taking a poke at you, just give due to a guy who helps a lot of us out and still gets his balls broken if he makes a single "error" and often has to repeat the same answers to idiots like me multiple time.

Sorry if you thought I was trying to target you for something. I wouldn't do that. Well, not in THIS thread.

Again, sorry if I was unclear, but I was teasing. I am thrilled that Bridesmaids got moved up almost a month and when it wins the Oscar, you all can chip in to buy me a date with Kristen Wiig. You know, the one's they auction off for charity...not the "I think she a closet hooker" kind.

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release and Discussion Thread

lol Dolphinboy, I agree I was wrong with Bridesmaids. but somehow, I think the date change was due to Super 8, Priates, Bad Teacher, Red State, and Monte Carlo, crowding that date. sometimes studios get word, not so much as the perticular title, but how many studios are eyeing that date. which i gather is why Universal moved it off. just a hunch. then again. maybe it was because they figure they can get the jump on the 4th quarter, much like Thor, Xmen, and Transformers.

Super 8 was never going to make the jump to Sept, Paramout doesnt like to drop below four month windows. if you ever want to measure Paramount and their films to DVD ratio. just use the four month rule. Transformers is the only exeption, only becaus they profit share with Dreamworks on it. but strict Paramount Only films drop after four months

now with that said.... lol

next week. Transformers will be 100% Offical, Water for Elephants will be offical. and there should be at least two new unoffical dates. should have some sort of an idea on whats going on with Larry Crowne and Harry Potter. btw that Capt America Date moved on me. its now looking like 12/6 (same day as the rumored Potter). Smurfs are looking like Thanksgiving (11/22)

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release and Discussion Thread

But it was only yesterday that you said Captain America: The First Avenger was moved up to November 1st. Did paramount move it again in one day?

So, now the date for Captain America is December 6th or can it still change?

Edit: Found this at blu-ray.com (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Captai...Blu-ray/22069/)

I don't think it is true though, because you said it that Paramount does not like to go before 4 months.

Paramount has employed a 3-month window in the past. G.I. Joe and The Goods are two examples that come to mind.

lol they like to imply it, never said they stick to it. I am sure they have dont it a lot of times, Paranormal Activity comes to mind as well

ok, maybe its just the huge blockbusters they do it with, and the stuff that bombs they rush out. who knows. talking to my Friend at Paramount, he said a 4 month window.

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release and Discussion Thread

When is paramount planning on officially announcing the release date for Super 8? After the movie hits on DVD?!

It's been over two months since it hit the theaters. What's taking so long?

And also videoeta says they will disclose the release date for Transformers: Dark of the Moon on September 20. If it is indeed scheduled for release for September 30, then why would they wait until 10 days before.

Also what's going on with Captain America, Horrible Bosses, Harry Potter 7B, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

Sorry for asking too much. lol

Super 8 will be offically announced around Labor Day
Transformers is Sept 30th. Period

Capt America - Late Nov/Early Dec
Horrible Bosses - Dec 13th
Harry potter 7B - late Nov
Rise of the Apes - Mid Dec

I see Midnight in Paris' release has been delayed.

I guess that officially means its Sony Classics' main horse in the Oscar race. :yay:

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release and Discussion Thread

This gets more interesting...

Got an e-mail from a distrib buddy and he says "Super 8" may have shifted to 11/22....hmmmm.

Also, I though the rumored Dec. date for "HP8.5" was 12/9, not 12/6. I've also heard of a November date, too....love this time of year!

Wow, come into this thread at your own peril. Midnight in Paris AND Super 8 being delayed really (really) depresses me.

Can anyone in the know give a little bit more info on when we might see Midnight in Paris now?

Are you serious? Now that I had planned my spending for the month of October, Paramount has decided to push Super 8 into November?

I'm with you. I can see why it would help ease the pain for some people who feel Sept/Oct are HUGE months, but I set things up just perfectly and expecting Midnight in Paris and Super 8 to both come out when they were "supposed" to come out and I'm nothing but disappointed that BOTH are now likely not coming out until later.

While Super 8 may only be a month, I'd still rather it not be delayed at all, if this theory about Midnight in Paris is being held back because of Oscar, then I'm kind of confused about when it would come out. Would they wait until after the awards to cash in on the "buzz" of the likely noms? Would they just wait until the Globes, which is still a LONG wait?

And why does this help with "Oscar pushes" in the first place? Aren't there usually several movies that get nominated that are already out on dvd/blu ray by the time the awards season comes? What is the benefit to holding back the home video release? If they want to try and cash in, why not put the movie back in theaters if they think the awards will get more people interested in seeing the film? Is that why? They want to put in back in theaters when they get award buzz and know people aren't likely going to go to the theater, if they can simply just rent the film?

Ugh, no offense to Thor fans. I really enjoyed that film, but generally big summer action flicks have enough other films not so dissimilar to them, where it doesn't sting if one is held back. But Midnight in Paris and Super 8 were wonderful films and I can't wait to get to see them again in my home in HD.
