I plan to watch Firefly and Serenity during this challenge. I've never seen either, but I think I remember reading somewhere that Firefly should be watched first. Is this correct?

It's really not necessary but some scenes in Serenity will have a bigger impact if you do. I watched Serenity first and loved it so much I watched all of Firefly. I would probably do it the other way around if I could have. If you can I'd say watch firefly first.

Either way, enjoy it. I'm not a massive whedon fan but it's some of my favorite sci-fi period.

Thanks, I'll go Firefly first then.

Absolutely Firefly first. Like takingchase, I saw Serenity in theaters then went back for Firefly, but the intended order (and original production order) is Firefly first.

Have fun--I envy your first time. But I've revisited many times and continue to enjoy both.

I couldn't make it past the first episode of Firefly but I was able to finish Serenity.

B5 or Farscape as a stretch goal? I'm thinking B5. I've already seen part of season 1 but will probably have to start over.

Also have Buffy and True Blood to watch but can save those for October.

I plan on trying out the Doctor Who reboot, hopefully I don't get hooked on it or I'll spend all month watching that instead of movies.

I was thinking about trying one of the specials as an intro

I'm doing B5 for this challenge though I watched season 1 last week b/c I'll be starting the challenge a bit late. That leaves 29 discs (36 if you start from the beginning) and it's B5 so I know I'll watch more than 1 disc on several days so it's totally doable.

Good, this means I can watch the original laserdisc version of THX-1138 as well as the newer, CGI-ruined one.

Re: 4th Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge - Discussion Thread

So excited for the sci fi/fantasy challenge, I decided to start watching some sci fi a few days early to get my sci fi fix. Going to start tonight with the V Mini series before Netflix takes it off of Watching Instantly. Anyone else starting early because they want to get their sci fi fix?

I watched a Doctor Who ep, yesterday, The Mask of Mandragora. I've got plenty of others I can slip in during the challenge.

I picked that one up at Target as well. Like you, I figured for $5 it's worth the gamble plus sci-fi is my absolute favorite genre! I plan to watch it during the challenge.

Amazon "reviews" on Starhunter 2300 are very mixed, *but* there's a review here on DVDTalk from John Sinnott with a "rent it" recommendation. As he's a reviewer who seems to have mostly similar tastes to mine I'd probably take the recommendation *unless* I could get it for a fiver or less - like the first season.

Re: 4th Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge - Discussion Thread

So... has anyone else noticed the abomination called "allrovi" that used to be allmovie? That *was* my "go-to" source for film information until they took away most of what made it good. It looks like I'm pretty much stuck with imdb this year. At least imdb has improved some over the past year.

I've purchased so much stuff this past year in anticipation of this challenge I don't think I'll have time for it all... again!

I'll probably kick this off with Transformers 3 on Friday. Heard it's pretty good.

Re: 4th Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge - Discussion Thread

If doing the checklist, is there a limit to the number of entries a single movie can fulfill? I probably won't get close to completing the checklist, but this might help me along the way.

In total agreement. Sci-fi is my favorite genre and $5 is worth the gamble. I'm gonna watch it during the challenge as well.

Re: 4th Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge - Discussion Thread

I've started watching SG1 in preparation for Sci-Fi Challenge month. The first season was...ok. I can't finish the series and watch other stuff during the challenge, so I'm gonna watch episodes here and there.

The movie info is still there, there's just a giant pile of poo you have to swim through to get to it.
