I was a HUGE Monkees fan in 2004 and 2005, I owned all the albums, both seasons on DVD as well as their 2001 concert. I even owned all of Michael Nesmith's solo albums. I also went out of my way to buy some of the albums on vinyl, including a first pressing of the original album (the one with "Papa Gene's Blues" spelled incorrectly) and I spent $35 on a vinyl copy of "Instant Replay" (which I then got Davy Jones to autograph). I saw Micky Dolenz in concert in 2005 and Davy Jones at a different concert in 2005 as well. After the Jones concert I became pretty disenchanted by the whole thing for some reason. By 2006 I wasn't really into them anymore and in November of that year I just chose to sell all my Monkees stuff in order to get money to buy other stuff. I wasn't really knowledgeable on how to use eBay so I chose to sell everything to a used DVD shop and it was a giant mistake. I think I only got $110 or something around that for ALL the albums (including Nesmith's solo albums) and all the DVDs (including the season sets). If you asked me what my biggest regret selling something was it would be the season sets of The Monkees. I'm still a fan (look at my username) but not nearly as big of a fan as I was in 2004/05.

P.S. I have tickets to see them in concert in June!

All 4 have shared a love/hate relationship for years. This time it's Mike who won't be joining them. Heopfully he will show up at one or two shows before the tour is over. I'm hoping there will be a dvd release of the tour when it's over as the guys are getting up there in years and this could be their last chance to perform together as a foursome.

I would have loved to have a shot at your collection. I'm thinking of trying to go to the June 3rd concert in Atlanta. Which concert are you going to?

Is there a listing of where and when of the concerts? I will try to get tickets if they come to my town! I have not been to a Monkees concert since 15 years!

I hope this as well. They did the Live Summer Tour in 2001(?) and now DVD/BD concerts are much more common and since it's the 45th anniversary tour I don't think it would be far fetched to expect something like that. What would be a true golden release would be if they could plan out a concert performance with Mike and film that for a DVD/BD release. That would be the greatest thing for them to do. I would be so excited to see that!

I agree, and bottom line is without Mike it isn't really The Monkees. It's like Paul and Ringo getting back together and calling themselves The Beatles.

That's very true, but at the same time they've been a trio since the late 1960s with Micky, Davy and Mike from 1968 to 1970 and then it was Micky, Davy and Peter in the mid 1980s. Truth be told they've been a trio longer than they were a quartet.

Mike has repeatedly posted on Facebook about how nobody would really want to see them play with him as he can't really play the songs anymore and how they are better without him. He posted an interested story a couple weeks ago about how he attended one of their concerts in disguise in the late 80s with a 14 year old Wynonna Rider with him.

Do you have the link for his Facebook? I can't believe that he couldn't learn to play the songs again. I'm a HUGE Michael Nesmith fan and would LOVE to see him play with them again, even if it's just him singing his classic songs! He's a musician, I'm sure he can play the songs with a little practice. I don't think he realizes how much of a fan following he really has, people want to see him!

I would love to have that link too. I've tried a search and it brings up alot of Michael Nesmiths. I can't ever find the right one. I agree with you about Mike's following. He has always been my favorite. He is extremely under-rated as a singer/songwriter.

He is incredibly underrated, my favorite Monkees songs are the ones he wrote and/or sang. I mean he IS the most talented of the group and the fact that he just won't do anything with them anymore really sucks. I mean, this is going to be it, I can't see them touring ever again, they're getting old, they're all pushing 70 now so he NEEDS to join up with them damnit!

And by the way, that's a lame excuse for him to not tour. He if he doesn't want to tour and then just say that, why come up with some lame excuse like "I can't play the songs anymore". If I remember correctly Peter Tork just had a bout with cancer (mouth, throat, something along those lines) and he's doing it, so man up Nez!

Re: The Monkees Season 1 & 2 rereleased 09/27/11

The Monkees - Retailers Informed of DVD Re-Releases for 'Season 1' and 'Season 2' Apparently coming out in late September

Back in 2003, Rhino Home Video released DVD for both seasons of the classic musical-sitcom TV series, The Monkees, in cool record-player-style packaging. These sets have been discontinued and out-of-print for quite some time now, and previously-owned copies can go for quite a pretty penny on the used DVD market. Now, though, word has come to us through our retailer contacts that fans won't have to pay through the nose any more to get the adventures of Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork: both The Monkees - Season 1 and The Monkees - Season 2 are both returning to DVD on September 27th, at a cost of $69.98 SRP for each season set. No word so far if these will be combined into a "complete series" set, or what we'll see in terms of extras. Our retailer contacts inform us, though, that these will possibly be getting released through Shout! Factory, so usually we can count on some sort of bonus material for a show of this magnitude. No promises, though, since the studio (whether it's Shout! or anybody else) hasn't formally announced the title to the press. Stay tuned, however, and we'll keep you updated with additional info, and package art, once everything gets finalized. For now, Amazon.com does have pre-release listings for both titles, but they aren't taking advance orders just yet. Check back, though!

Its not Shout Factory releasing them. They confirmed that via Twitter.

So if these new releases will have all the same extras, no one knows.

I am hoping that they will release in a regular DVD case season set, as much I loved the creative packaging, the discs are prone to scratches which I did not like

Re: The Monkees Season 1 & 2 rereleased 09/27/11

September 27 is seven and a half weeks away. I'm assuming that Rhino will be the company that re-releases the series just by looking at the $70 MSRP. Who else would charge that much?

By the way, that's $70 for each season.
