Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

You would probably get a quicker answer asking in the Profiler forums, either under the new user section or the technical problems section.

I doubt it. I posed my situation there in the new user forum (because I'm using the free version that's where I'm restricted to posting) and so far I've been told to repair databases, which did not address my problem but did replace all the artwork I'd added to each title with the default thumbnails. The other reply assumed I was a complete newbie/moron and advised me all about the "Sort Title" field. I enjoy DVD Profiler as software, but their forum is infuriatingly pretentious.

I had a problem like this. I had my Blu-rays and HD DVDs assigned to their own categories. I also had them attached as child profiles to profiles called Blu-ray and HD DVD in my main collection. Worked great on the PC. Not on the new app. I just removed them from those fake profiles (used to group them all together) and did a re-sync and it went great after that.

To be fair people are trying to help you. They're trying to get more information on the issue and are suggesting the most helpful things they can think of until they get more information. A database repair is like a reboot in that it fixes many issues people have. Obviously it didn't help you. But at least they tried.

I suggest going back with the information they requested. You can't give half the details and get upset if people (users with absolutely no obligation to help you in the first place) aren't able to get you the solution right off the bat. There are smart people there who love to help. And they will if they can.

My guess is this is a new issue with 3.7 that no one has run into yet.

You're absolutely right that some people have tried to help me, and I shouldn't have said anything that came off as ungrateful. My "pretentious" slam was meant more generally, as I've browsed through the forum there off and on over the last couple of years and found those people absolutely crazy about how particular they are about things and how dismissive several of the more outspoken posters are of others who don't share their level of obsession.

As for my specific problem, I am at a complete loss to understand it. I'd hate for others to have to encounter this because it's obnoxious but I'm kinda hoping to find out I'm not the only one.

I visit daily but post very infrequently. For precisely the reasons you mention. But you may be interested to know that earlier this year they started cracking down on the behavior in the forums. And many of the troublemakers are either toned down now or currently suspended. So I think you'd find the atmosphere there improved. Not perfect, but improved.

As for your specific problem, there is a new beta if you're a paid member that may fix your issue. Or you can wait for 3.7.1 to be released. No time frame I'm aware of, but I would expect it rather soon. Probably this week or next would be my guess. I think it's just some bug fixes related to the iOS app plus whatever other bug fixes he can squeeze in.

Thanks for sharing. It's nice to know 1) I wasn't the only one who found that forum alienating and 2) that they've made it more civil. I don't expect an online forum to be like Sesame Street, but I have no personal interest in participating in one where a core group of old timer regulars frequently exhibit hostility toward new members. I used to post to quite a number of forums, but DVD Talk is about the only one left now. Hopefully, newbies will find Invelos's forum far more inviting and rewarding than I did.

I can wait; it's not that big of a deal, aside from being an anomaly that confuses me. I keep telling myself I'll finally break down and upgrade to a paid membership, but it keeps not being a priority.

I wish they would make a Mac version of this so I don't need to use two different softwares to cat my collection.

3.7.1 is now out. Can't say if it will fix your issue or not. Someone else was posting about something similar and said 3.7.1 did NOT fix the problem. But you can try.

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

I like the iPhone/iPod app. It does take a while to initially download the listings but I imagine it depends on how many movies you have. Still not sure if it's worth $9 but it does have a lot of information.

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

i'm using the iPhone/iPod app and i really like it so far. i like the way you can display your collection as if they are all on shelves.

i'm still trying to figure out how to sync between my iphone/ ipad and imac though... let's say if i make updates on my iphone/ ipad, how do i get those updates onto the imac?

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

I don't have an iphone/ipad, but I have a smart/android phone. Will the mobile function work for me? I can't figure on how to install it.

Thanks.

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

I'm really liking the IPad/IPod app, a lot of information in my pocket, and easy to use. It would be better if it synced with my online collection, but the instructions for syncing it with my computer were really clear, so I had no trouble setting that up.

So far I've always added on my computer (it's just so much easier to type on my computer) so no idea how well or if the sync works from IPad/IPod to PC.

I think it would be better to sync to the online collection, rather than actually connect to the computer running profiler. Plus, the program has to be running. Once connected, and the database transfereed, the app is great.

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

Yeah, I agree that it seems like it would be simpler and easier to sync with the online database than have to sit here and do all the stuff which is now required to do to get it onto my iPhone, although once it's finally installed - I DO like it!

By the way - does anybody here use the phpdvdprofiler app? I just finished fighting with my computer and web host for 2 days and finally got it working. I am quite happy with it - if you want to give it a look see it's here:
[Well, they have my domain name blocked from showing here - if you want to see it you'll have to manually type in (or copy & paste):]
http: //danwiz dot com/phpdvdprofiler/ and then delete the spaces and change the "dot" to .
It will open in "sorted by title" mode, but you can click on the column labels to sort by Genre or Date bought. All columns can then be sorted either ascending or descending. If you click on the Navigation Bar and click on "Site Statistics" you get some interesting information about various things. I am sure that there are things which I have not yet learned about it!!

If you want more info on the phpdvdprofiler app, or want to install it go here:

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

What's up with the online reviews that are colored bars with no text narrative. If that's it (i.e. no text narrative), then it's worthless to me.

Jack Straw: Are you talking to me?? My searching - what I see in my Firefox - shows no reference to online reviews, nor do I see any colored bars?!

Select a title, click "Online" from the menu bar and then select "Reviews..." from the drop down menu. A bunch of review bars from "Anonymous" are shown on the left side of the pop-up box with no text in 99%. Guess I'll have to contribute my review to put the DVD Profiler user really "in the know".

Re: DVDProfiler 3.7 is released

I don't need something that will help me keep track of what is in my collection.
What I want is something that will keep me track of DVDs/CDs that I want to add to my collection.
Any freeware that'll do the job?

How did you get it to sort by blu-ray ? I don't see that option.
