Anyone else out there keep up with Dexter? I'm currently halfway through Season 3 and it seems much slower (and like there is less plot going on). Not that I want to get into content (or spoilers) at all, but is Season 3 known as a weaker season? I've heard competing arguments.
On another note, I'm rewatching my first three seasons of Entourage and I forgot how much quick, mindless escapism there is in this show. I picked up 3-4 of the more recent seasons (which I haven't seen) from a recent (holidays?) Amazon sale.
I also have no idea where I left off on Californication, so I think that show is on hold for me until after the challenge is over.

My sleep schedule is completely off, so I'm staying up late running in and out of the bathroom (stupid Crohn's) for the second straight night. Re-visiting The 4400 The Complete First Season, which I enjoyed in its original broadcast. I wish I'd kept up with the show during its run. Incidentally, add it to the informal list of recent era shows that actually has a full theme song--and for my money, the opening credits of this show was one of the best on TV. I loved the peculiar sound of the song ("A Place in Time"), and thought it was a clever montage showing the passage of time.
Paramount didn't put much effort into the DVD release, though: five episodes (including the double-length pilot) across two discs. I suppose they could have just made it a single flipper disc, but other than that this is as barebones as it gets. A shame, too, because with the talent behind the series (including two Deep Space Nine veterans) there was bound to be a worthwhile commentary track to be had.

I just notice the entire series is $30 on Amazon Marketplace, that is psychotic. I'm reminded of my problem when I suddenly want to purchase something I already own because it's a good deal (but I don't, that would be odd).

The 4400 is a good show but although worthwhile I didn't think the later seasons kept up with the very high quality of that first season. There are commentaries in further releases.

Of course, if my guts choose to be uncooperative on Thursday, bets will be back on!

A note on the trivia questions: the third question is always specific to the prize being awarded.

Of the first 4 seasons, I do think that Season 3 is the weakest one. Not only slower and less interesting, but Dexter doesn't seem to be himself and certain other characters are just over-the-top. Season 3 isn't terrible, but I found it to be the least satisfying one. Things get back on track with Season 4.
Thanks for giving your perspective. I agree that I don't think it's terrible, but it's certainly a step down from the first two seasons.

Telly's Matlock is going out this afternoon. Sorry it took so long; this was the first time I have ever shipped internationally--on that note, telly, let me know if you don't get it within say 2 weeks--that would probably mean I messed something up.
Congrats!

I finished the third season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show today and was surprised to see Craig T. Nelson have a bit part in the final episode of the season. One of the things I love about watching old shows is spotting people who go on to become bigger names just getting their start.

This snide little crap is not appreciated. I sent in answers to questions after I had won. This is my first challenge and I understand completely that you would make winners ineligible to allow others a chance, but commented that I wish this had been made more clear. I thought we had taken care of this privately. but some people can't let it go.

That's how I read it. I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out. I thought the complaint was because there was just a note that past winners can't try to win again, which I didn't understand why anyone would get upset.

I'm glad you got it so fast but now I wonder how it got sent--I filled out the forms and basically said "no rush" to my guy as there was no slow option to avoid, just varying degrees of fast ones...you got it overnight! Nice!
I didn't include a catalog as we don't do business in Canada--someday maybe.

Massive update/response post here, trying to cover everything at once.
And the randomly selected winner as chosen by Math Goodies Random Number Generator is...
jmsmath! Congratulations!
Speaking of the prizes...
Please note: previous winners are ineligible to win another prize. Tryin' to spread the wealth here, folks.[/QUOTE]
As others have already noted, this was not meant at all to call attention to you or anyone else in particular. The "folks" was entirely unconscious on my part, and you're just going to have to take my word that I'm neither malevolent enough, nor pun-happy enough, to have inserted the word purely to take a jab at you. To wit, notice that I was also prompted to post the following trivia rule reminder:
I thought establishing the rules in the very beginning would be sufficient, and twice now in five rounds I've run into a problem with an omission in the wording. This hosting business is hard, y'all!
It hurts me to see Helen Hunt maligned like this. Oh, the things I used to want to do to/with/for her....
Shazam! That was fast! Rich has really gone above and beyond with these prizes, despite my best efforts to ruin it for everyone, and I hope even those who haven't won yet recognize the time and trouble (and cost) it's taken to dress up our little challenge with some respectable prizes.

I started watching The Black Adder on Netflix instant stream. A bunch of reviews recommended skipping the first season, which I enjoyed, but they all failed to explain that you really didn't need to watch the first season to enjoy the rest. The second season on, was basically a reboot of the series and is completely different than the first.
I still liked a lot of the first one since he was more of a Mr. Bean type character.
