Longest Unopened DVD ?

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?
Wow, I can't think of a worse incentive to buy a DVD player than this collection of films (except perhaps direct-to-video sequels, but christ I'd be more enthusiastic about the Carnosaur series).

Since people are talking VHS...
They're not brand new but they're still shrinkwrapped previously viewed tapes I picked up a decade ago when I worked at Hollywood Video. One night I scoured through to find the most obscure trash:
-Spacerage (with Richard Farnsworth!)
-Megaforce

I break this rule right away. The second that dvd/blu-ray makes it home. I open it right away. I check out if there is any episode guides and I just look through the box. I don't play it right away but I open every package.

I got a copy of Seinfeld: Season 3 for Christmas 2-3 years ago that I haven't opened.
Funny, though...I almost always open DVDs right after I get them, whether I watch them right away or not.
I think the only other unopened DVD I have is Following, which is OOP now.

Hardboiled, bought around July 1998.
The Devil's Advocate (1999), a promo copy that came as a free mail-in offer bundled with the DVD player.
Matilda (1997), the first release in a CD jewel case, a promotional freebie that I have had since early 1998.

I usually open mine right away and stick them on the shelf, but a few that I know are unopened:
Rat Race - received this as a gift about 4 Christmases ago, but never opened it (since it wasn't one that I picked out).
Midgets vs. Mascots - my wife and I went to a screening of this last year and they gave away free copies of the dvd with every ticket. Since there were two of us, we each got a copy, but we only opened one.
Beauty and The Beast (Disney Blu-Ray) - okay, we've obviously only had this one for a few days, but it still remains unopened!

I used to do that until I got two of the same disc on one of my South Park seasons and a scratched to hell copy of another movie that didn't work (not a floater.) Now I open all DVDs or Blu-Rays soon after I receive them and inspect any disc just in case I have to return it.

My "House" double feature has 2 discs in a regular keepcase with the stupid flappy-thing in the middle, it's not in an envelope. I bought this because it was a limited edition, but as of now still haven't watched it- might try to get it in for Halloween viewing this year.
All my DVDs get opened right away, but it can be years before they get watched. I think my oldest unwatched are a bunch of Simitar direct-to-video movies (a few that stand out on my shelf are Cause of Death, Man In Uniform and The 5th Day of Peace) I got at Circuit City for $4.99 in 1999, since back then that was an amazingly low price for anything- funny thing is this was also when they were pushing the 48-hour DIVX discs at $4.49. A couple years later major-studio stuff started showing up for around that price, and it's since gotten lower.

For me it's a little over 4 years now, Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi Limited Edition. Parts 4-6 were gifts. I watched 4, had to return part 5 to the store after all these years because someone screwed up and sent me a fullscreen copy...couldn't find a replacement copy at Wal-mart and I can't watch 6 until I watch 5 lol, so there 6 sits on the shelf.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?
I just discovered that I never unwrapped/opened Battlestar Galactica: Razor (Unrated Extended Edition) purchased shortly after it's release date of December 2007. Don't think I opened it for 2 reasons: I was hoping to find it cheaper but didn't within the timeframe of my return capabilities at Target, and we had just seen it on TV, and didn't want to watch the series as a whole (including Razor) until I had Seasons 4.0 & 4.5 in my collection, which I didn't get until a few days ago because they were always so damned expensive. Since I bought Razor, I've discovered that it's included in Season 4.0, kinda pissed at myself for buying it now...
