Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I have an extra copy of Sorcerer that I bought in 2000. It's still unopened. So 10+ years.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I have tons of unopened DVDs and Blu-rays (some more than 5 years). I won't open them until I watch them. Sometimes it even pays off when a movie goes out of print, as there is more value for an unopened DVD. Then, if I feel the price is worth it over not seeing it, or I stumble across a cheaper used version, I will sell the new one.

Another reason to keep them sealed: it protects the contents from the dust and air (and, in South Florida, the humidity).

Same here, unless it's a Criterion or MoC title that I know I'm going to watch. I've made literally hundreds of dollars over the years selling sealed as opposed to opened OOP discs. I believe the oldest unopened disc in my collection is Return of the Magnificent Seven, from 2001 - it has a Tower Records (remember them?) price tag on it.

I've got unopened stuff from 2000, maybe even 1999. Don't tell my wife!

Munich 2 disc OOP edition
I pre ordered from amazon and when it got deleted the day it came out, i heard amazon was canceling most of the pre-orders, i rushed down to best buy, picked up the last one on the shelf and then a few days later my copy from amazon arrived
this reminds me to go to the dvd talk trading forum and put this up for grabs with a new thread

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I always make sure to open my stuff right away to make sure I've got everything that's supposed to be included (no duplicate discs, inserts there if its supposed to have one, etc.). The only DVD unopened in my house is a copy of Criminal Minds: Season 4 I bought for my dad back in June.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I could never not open something like this, so the longest I would have ever waited is until I get home. Sometimes I even open them up in McDonalds or something whilst I'm out, but then the covers get marked and stuff.

House (the 1986 horror film) on DVD. It came with a free copy of House 2 in an envelope inside of the case. Impulse purchase on 8/29/2001 from Best Buy. Still sits unopened on my DVD shelf.

Same. I also never opened Stargate...I think that was part of the 5 pak as well. Or Seven Days Seven Nights...one or both of those still sealed.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I just scanned my shelves/checked my records and this is what I found:

About 10 years ago, I bought but haven't opened:
- Quicksand (bought this twice, haven't opened/watched either one)
- Urban Cowboy (bought this twice, haven't opened/watched either one)
- Rules of Engagement (bought this twice, haven't opened/watched either one)
- Wonderland
- Category 6: Day of Destruction
- Category 7: The End of the World
- Crocodile Dundee I
- Crocodile Dundee II
- Doc Hollywood (I replaced a old VHS copy of this.)
- Pay it Forward (VHS Replacement)
- More than Puppy Love (VHS Replacement)
- Popeye (Robin Williams comedy)
- Spies Like Us
- The Wedding Singer

...And many more unopened DVDs sitting on my shelf from the past and present.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I bought Two English Girls in 2001. It was filler in an order to bring it up to free shipping. Then the dealer deleted everything that I really wanted.

I used to do that until I got two of the same disc on one of my South Park seasons and a scratched to hell copy of another movie that didn't work (not a floater.) Now I open all DVDs or Blu-Rays soon after I receive them and inspect any disc just in case I have to return it.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I am embarrased to tell you how many dozens I've had for at least a decade without opening them. I am now very selective with my purchasing and only purchase those I will watch repeatedly

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

I still have an opened Se7en platinum edition I got from Costco years ago. I'm glad I didn't open it because I'm just going to return it and get the BD if I see it there. I already did that with an unopened Godfather trilogy.

Yeah, Stargate and Six Days, Seven Nights were also part of the 5 pack. With Lethal Weapon 4 and Lost in Space. I opened the rest, but cant remember ever watching Lost in Space.

I've got a few VHS still shrinwrapped, also. The oldest might be With Friends Like These, which I bought at Walmart in 2002, I think.

Re: Longest Unopened DVD ?

Mine would have to be Coffin Joe: Awakening of the Beast. Picked it up ages ago with my trade-in credit at a record store. I would say *gulp* it's been around 8 years.
