By which filmmaker do you own the most films.

If you count short films. I own exactly 40 films by Werner Herzog. If you don't, I own around 30 by Herzog.

Next would be Marty Scorsese with 20.

While they are only hovering around the 10-15 film mark now, I could see Altman, Bergman, Woody Allen, Kurosawa and Hitchcock surpassing 25 in the future.

My goal is to own every film Werner Herzog has ever made. I'm about 15 away.

My DVD collection is pretty puny compared to most here, so the Oliver Stone collection puts him over the top: 12 films.

Ingmar Bergman
Werner Herzog
Martin Scorsese
Alfred Hitchcock
Clint Eastwood
Terry Gilliam

i'd say a range of 8-16 per director... though i'm too lazy right now to count each! hah.

^Miike was always my top-leader in those last posts, but Hitch just overtook him.

I miss DVDSpot, which had this info right on your user page.

DVDProfiler says I've got 18 Kurosawa films, 15 Spielberg, 13 Hitchcock, and 12 Michael Curtiz.

all fairness, when a thread reaches 5 years since any activiity, I'd say it's fair game to start a new one.

Woody Allen only because of the Big Lots sale on the box sets... I'm not really a fan of his films...

not that it would hurt anyone anyhow, but it's about dvd's and which ones you own, so I thought it appropriate.

You have 42 Hitchcock films there. "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "The Cheney Vase" are episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents that weren't directed by Hitchcock.

Re: By which filmmaker do you own the most films.

Top 12 (since there's a tie at 10). Some of these are doubles though (Hitchcock I probably have about 10 doubles, Kubrick most of his movies I have in standard and blu-ray, I was too lazy to figure out which, but he didn't even direct 17 movies).

Alfred Hitchcock 41 (probably closer to 31 movies)
John Ford 23 (probably about 21 movies, I'm guessing)
Michael Curtiz 19 (only double is Casablanca, but I have 3 releases of that)
Steven Spielberg 18
Stanley Kubrick 17 (more like 12 not counting doubles)
Akira Kurosawa 15 (no doubles)
Martin Scorsese 15 (probably 1 or 2 doubles)
Clint Eastwood 13 (I think no doubles)
Oliver Stone 13
Billy Wilder 12
Sam Raimi 12 (I think 6 of these are various releases of evil dead movies)
Woody Allen 12
