Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

I once lost just one disc of All In The Family Season 2, it was lost for almost two years. I found it once I decided to disconnect the VCR I never used, under the VCR was this very dusty disc. How it got there I'll never know.

Can't say I ever lost a DVD. But anything else (keys, phone, wallet, etc.) there's a good chance I've lost it at least once. It always popped up somewhere, at some point though.

Plus I got mine back in '98 so that gives me plenty of time to lose it

Actually, only two days ago I realized I'm missing a DVD: Serenity.

I do hope I've lent it to someone , but I usually remember doing that, so I'm rather nervous right now.

Considering that 'The Matrix' came out in theaters on March 31, 1999, and came out on DVD on September 21, 1999, that's quite a feat! (or glitch?)

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

I was going through my collection once and was really suprised I didn't own Halloween II. I had all the others but not part II. My friend hears me ranting about it one day and buys me a copy for Christmas.

Sure enough, I'm going through my collection one day and hey, 2 copies of Halloween II!

Another time I was really wanting to watch Poltergeist. I knew I had never bought the movie before but one day I find the case for it in my shelves and was like, awesome! I open the case and it was empty. I was a bit pissed.

I do finally own a copy now though. Last Halloween I bought the bluray release along with the Matrix on blu.

Since I started collecting in early 98 I have moved 8 times so I'm guessing that is what has happened to mine.
The only ones I know for sure has disappeared is the original release of "Mystery Science Theater:the movie" and the Sleepaway Camp Survival Kit(which sucks because it was the original red cross release). Thankfully they re-released MST3K.

I've been buying DVDs since 1999, and still have every one I've bought. Try to keep them well organized however... by category and alphabetized... and never loan them out.

The Horatio Hornblower set. It has been missing for a year or more, and I can't figure out where the hell it is. It's a set not just a disk so you'd think it would be easy to find. I have this vague memory of being out of space when I finished it and putting it somewhere strange, but no idea where that might be.

I'm missing SAW V (case and disc), and disc 2 of ECW - Extreme Rules. Either a burglar had a particular obsession for gore, or I've lent them out and they haven't been returned.

I was repacking some DVDs last week when I picked up Space Buddies, which felt a little light. The box had its slipcover, but the disc was missing. I've checked the old, unused and unplugged players, but it's not in there. No idea why that title of all the movies and BDs i own would disappear. (That, and issue 1 of Kick-Ass. Annoys me terribly that that comic has also vanished.)

I wonder if this is a new marketing ploy to get us to double-dip. The decomposing DVD. It just vanishes......

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

This has happened to me a few times. One occassion had an old girlfriend take my copy of Time Cop and then promptly lent it to a friend of hers who then disappeared never to be seen again. The second was a friend who took my copy of Casino. He had it for 18 months before i saw it at his place and he had still not gotten round to watching it. Both occassions they took the films from my place without my knowing. Can't trust anyone these days.

Same thing here. The little bastard took about 50 of mine out of the cases and put them in a binder along with CDs also (He tried to replace some of his scratched to hell CDs with my mint ones). When I called him on it, he said he was just borrowing them. He did it again before my parents finally kicked him out but this time he took the whole case and I don't know what is missing but I know there's around 10 or so.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

This happens way to much for me.

Somehow my Fresh Prince of Bel Air Seasons 1,2,and 4 have fallen off the face of the earth, case and all. Fresh Prince Season 3 is here tho. And Friends Season 9 Disc 1 and Family Guy Volume 3 Disc 1 both went missing too. And whatever happened to those happened to my wallet that has my ID,SS Card,Multiple membership cards, and a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. And I bought both the X-Men and Bourne Blu-Ray Trilogys on their release days and I eventually had to except the fact that I was gonna be forced to rebuy the Trilogy sets, but I ended up getting them for Christmas last year(but the Bourne Trilogy was bought at FYE,and was the US release, while I got the UK set for Christmas,so I can't even have thoughts that those were the same ones I bought) And of course I can't forget the disappearence of my Seinfeld Complete Series collector's set. So one of these days I'll probably be forced to re-buy Fresh Prince Seasons 1,2,and 4,the Seinfeld set,Family Guy Volume 3 and Friends Season 9.

Then there the fact that I almost had 2 copies of the Batman Arkham Asylum for the Xbox 360,because it went missing case and all,and I bought another one thinking I might have accidently traded it in,but before I opened it,there it appeared in a box of Wrestling DVDs.

What sucks is Family Guy & Friends are some of my most-watched dvds in my collection.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

The two-disc edition of Fight Club. A few months ago, I pulled the case off my shelf because I was in the mood to watch it (it had been about a year and a half since I last watched it) and lo and behold, both discs were missing. If it had just been the feature disc, I would have thought "Oh, well I must have misplaced it." But the special features discs was also missing. I'm 99% sure someone stole it because I never lend out my DVD's. I'm just not sure who because very few people are allowed in my room. The good news is that I am planning on upgrading to the BD anyway.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

This just happened to me...or actually I just realized it.

A few years back when Lucas re-released Star Wars in the two disc special editions with the original theatrical cuts included I quickly traded in my old copies I had on DVD and gladly purchased the new editions. I kept the silver box set I had (and the bonus disc) and put the new editions in the box set.

I lived in a one bedroom apartment, didn't have proper space to display my collection, so random DVDs would be easy to misplace for a time until I located them and put them where they belonged.

I recently moved to a bigger place and I noticed episode 4 was missing from the box set. I packed up EVERY DVD/Blu-Ray I own and yesterday and today I unpacked them all to get them ready to put on my shelving units.

And Episode 4 was NOT found.

The only thing I can think is I took it to work one time (and I can't recall for sure if I did or didn't) to play on the Blu-Ray player there with the widescreen TV to see how bad the non-anamorphic transfer on Episode 4 would look on an HD TV and maybe I left it there and somebody decided to claim it.

Living in an apartment there is always the possibility a maintenance guy could help himself to a random DVD, but where I had the box set in my old apartment wasn't exactly in a place somebody coming in to do work would see right away to take something if they felt there was an opportunity. So I really probably never will know what happened to it...I just know it's gone and now I will have to buy it again. Even if it's re-released on Blu-Ray I have an incomplete DVD box set and I can't have that!

On the flip side, there were a couple titles I thought I lost that I found in the move, so at least that was something good.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

The only time this has ever happened, was when I couldnt fine Oceans 11. I had all three, and jsut couldnt find the first one, disc or case. Checked Profiler, and it wasnt checked out to anybody. Ended up getting a new copy for $5. Sure enough a couple of weeks later, I am at a friends house and she says, "I think I have a dvd of yours". I told her to keep it.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

This has happened to me a few times but the one i remember the most is about a few months ago i realized i was missing my History Of Beavis and Butt-head dvd (box and all) and after hours or searching i finally gave up. The dvd turned up 3 days later in my shirt drawer under a few of my shirts....i still have no idead how it got there. Also just this past thursday i decided to play my modern warfare 2 game for xbox 360 and i realized that the game was missing, it had been about 2 months since i last played it. I went thru my entire room and still could not find it. Either somebody stole it and i just straight up misplaced it but i still have not been able to find it.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

This has happened to us a few times. Once, my mom lost her dvd of Two Weeks Notice. We found the case, but the disc has just vanished. We checked all the dvd players in the house, but it wasn't there. Also, she lost her copy of Home Alone. Weeks, and we couldn't find it. So, we bought another. Wouldn't you know it, but not long after, the missing dvd turned up. Oh, well. My brother had a copy of one of those chimps playing sports movies. He looked everywhere and, now years later, hasn't found it.
