DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

Well, just the other day I was looking for The Matrix in my collection for a reviewing. This is one of my very first DVD's that I ever owned, and have watched it many times. So, I go to the familiar place where the DVD should be, and it is not there.
Of course, I do not believe my eyes, look again, look around the spot where it should be. Nothing...
Disappointment, fear, anger and frustration, in that order. Where is it? Did I lend it out? No. Did my wife lend it out? No. Did my child eat it? No, and if she lies about it, I am sure we'll find out within 24 hours.
At the end, we watched something else. The mystery is still there though. It is still missing. Maybe it wasn't happy living with us anymore, and decided to move out. Maybe a tear in the space-time fabric removed it to a parallel universe (do they have DVD players there though!).

Has this ever happened to you? Did you end up finding the disc? If not, was it a valued possession, or are you happy to be rid of it?

Dozens of times. They all turn up eventually, although one pile of empty cases is still missing their discs after a year or so. One of them is The Matrix coincidentally enough. I know I'll someday find the binder or spindle that has all the discs for them.

Yeah this happens to me all the time. I keep the majority of my DVDs back at my parents house about 5 hours away and usually bring binders full of discs to swap out everytime I visit and through this method it gets hard to track which disc is where so some of them fall through the cracks - yet they are usually found eventually. Right now I've realized that I'm missing "The Last House of the Left" and "The Secret of Nimh"...

A couple of years ago I discovered that my disc of Barfly was missing. Of course, it's now selling for big bucks on Amazon.

Sounds like a nice double feature...

i have had movies stolen from me when I let my cousin move in with me for a while, never let dope headed family members live with you. Your DVDs will become meth money :) I only lost stupid low budget cheap-o comedies though, nothing important

That happened to me with Pink Floyd's The Wall. I know I owned it, but it just went completely missing, case and disc. That was a few years ago, back when I still lived at my parents house, so there's still a possibility of it turning up some day

I found one "missing" DVD in an old DVD player that broke down a few years back. The computer drive is always another culprit for missing DVDs.

Happens all the time... especially when you have thousands and thousands in your collection. rotfl

I thought my Criterion Unbearable Lightness of Being had been filched by a babysitter, but I eventually found it. Still haven't found my Road Trip, however.

I know I have all nine Rebel Highway DVDs but I can't find Runaway Daughters!

OT: is Roadracers ever coming out on DVD?

I don't make a habit of lending out my DVDs but if I ever did it would only be to my younger brother (who is now 52) and I don't think I need to worry about him. Back in the day when I partied heartily, I managed to misplace(?) my Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, and my Marillion - Misplaced Childhood albums, never did find out what happened to them but they've since been replaced. My wife & I lead a fairly solitary life together so there really isn't anyone I'd want (or need) to lend anything to. If something came up missing however, I'd be tearing the house apart (figuratively speaking of course) in panic and frustration because I'm normally so anal about being organized. -kd5-

It never managed to come out on DVD in the US, but it is available as a Region 0 PAL DVD released in Australia, if you happen to have a PAL-capable DVD player. :)
www.amazon.com/Roadracers-Rebel-Highway-NON-USA-FORMAT/dp/B000WZOO3W has a few marketplace listings for it.
There's also one on eBay at cgi.ebay.com.au/ROADRACERS-BRAND-NEW-SEALED-RARE-DVD-/330438129878 at the moment.

Yeah, I lost Keeping the Faith at one time, but it eventually showed up.

Like others have said, they eventually show up for me. DVDRs on the other hand...

Only one, interestingly enough. Beverly Hills Cop.

I couldn't find Silent Hill for a while, the case holder was broken and I put it in another case, just couldn't remember which one. So months later it turned up in Wind Chill's case.

I lost Pushing Tin once, but really wanted to watch it, so bought the double pack with it and Down Periscope :yack:, a film I would otherwise have never bought. I later found a third copy of Pushing Tin.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

I have had the exact opposite happen before, A disc appeared out of nowhere.

A few years back I am looking in the living room closet and I am standing on a chair to get something off the very top shelf and I find a copy of American Pie 2 R-Rated Version, Disc only and scratched to hell.. This was before I started collecting lots of DVDs so I didn't have very many and would have most certainly remembered purchasing it, I have a ton more now and I still remember every one I purchase.

I know when we lived there we had looked in that place before and never seen it and I think we actually moved in there before it was released on DVD so it must have ended up there afterward but I still don't know when or how, It was not really a place any one would go like guests or family.

My only guess is that someone must have opened the closet real quick and thrown it up there.. for whatever reason?? They would not have been in there very long because someone would have seen them and asked wtf they were doing it our closet.

Regarding missing discs.. oddly enough the only one ever missing was one of The Matrix discs when I happened to open up the case but it didn't take me long to find it in one of the players we no longer used.

There is a scary trend here.

3 posters reported on having Matrix DVD's missing.

Now, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but that is too much of a difference. Spontaneous combustion, as a ploy from Warner so we have to buy the disc again?

It's a glitch.

I had the disc for Get A Life on a spindle while I lost the case for a few years. I found the case last month. It had been on a shelf next to my side of the bed the entire time.

Re: DVD gone missing from collection: has this ever happened to you?

Just 2-3 months ago, I was looking for a particular DVD with no success. For a few days, I racked my brain as to its whereabouts. Finally, I had a vague recollection of putting a stack of DVDs under a bed (think it was during a quick tidy-up with company coming over). When I found the DVD(s) that had been misplaced, I don't think I had ever been more relieved. :)

It's probably just the law of averages, I think just about EVERYBODY owns or has owned this DVD at one time.
