The digital restoration of (Picnic and Bell Book and Candle, both shot by the great cinematographer James Wong Howe, ASC, will allow them to be shown as close to their original color as possible, in their proper formats (2.55:1 widescreen original CinemaScope in the case of Picnic.) ...all five have been newly-restored and remastered for this new set.

Picnic and Bell Book and Candle are both solid films. The latter is with Jimmy Stewart and is an enjoyable romantic comedy, I'm a guy and I enjoyed it a good amount. Picnic is pretty good drama that won awards when it was out. It got a bit melodramatic to me, but I've talked with quite a few people who put say it's one of their favorite films. The current Picnic dvd is oop and wasn't anamorphic if I remember correctly. Glad they're getting restored finally.

Not a huge Kim Novak fan, but she's been in some fine movies. I have to wonder how they are getting the five films on 3 discs. Picnic, Pal Joey, and BB&C all deserve their own discs. Also, if they continue with their stacked disc packaging, flippers will be even less appreciated.
I'm looking forward to picking this up, but I really wish Picnic and BB&C were getting a Blu ray release.

Sony doesn't seem particularly concerned with releasing classic films in HD. Other than the Harryhausen films, Sony hasn't released a single pre-1960's film on Blu-ray.
