I signed up too. The only bad thing I can think of is watching stuff and then trying to remember to search to see if it's there.
One piece of advice for new people to the site, start off with the list of unchecked movies in your control panel. Then check out the lists for what you do/don't have checked and sort by year, so you can actually see when the movie came out.
I've been going list by list so I run across the same movies over and over. I'm too far in this way to quit and do it the easier way.

The same with something in there called "Communion". I never heard of it before, but when I clicked on it for info, it looked like Alice, Sweet, Alice. Sure enough, that's what it was. They didn't even provide it's alternate title! So be sure to give a movie a good look before checking or un-checking it.
BTW, It takes about 2 or 3 days for your awards/rank-status to appear. Oh and User=Laydback.

Some of the titles are tricky too. For instance, they have the cantonese title for A Better Tomorrow listed along with an alternate title called "Gangland Boss". But the only way I knew it was A Better Tomorrow was because of it's cover-art. I don't think nobody in North America knows that movie as "Gangland Boss".

Good catch on Communion. I just checked it. Wouldn't have done it if you never said anything.
Just finished checking everything I knew about. Now I should be just under 500 in the rankings.

Doing a TV on DVD challenge has been motivation enough to begin watching Lost for the very first time. And after the 2-part pilot episode, I'm officially hooked.

Mid-terms have killed this challenge for me so far. As of today I've watched a whopping two films!
And damn you guys for pointing out that icheckmovies site. I've spent all my available moments pouring through their lists and adding them. I can't wait until they allow the users to add movies. My life will be pretty much over at that point. My profile's at http://www.icheckmovies.com/profile/dcrw6 if anyone cares.

I just finished checking everything I knew I'd seen. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of the foreign titles where I only know the english title.

Copngrats! It's a frustrating and uneven show, but overall I think it is pretty great. The first season in particular is some of the best television ever made.

icheckmovies.com is easily one of my favorite movie sites; thanks for introducing me to it! I was working on modifying an Excel file another forum member compiled of theses assorted lists, but this is much easier for me. It's not as addictive as flickchart, but it's a great resource. I hope they continue to add the various lists that have been published.
Anyway, I've managed to knock off three features from my list so far: Ghost World (which I absolutely loved), Kissing a Fool (which was predictable, but likable) and Balls of Fury (which was predictable and mediocre). We've also finished the fourth and fifth seasons of The Office (streaming via Netflix), but since those aren't actually on the Unwatched list, I'm not counting them. Same for Good Dick, which was not the quirky comedy its trailer made it out to be.
If all goes according to plan, this weekend I'm gonna geek out with some comic book/superhero movies I haven't seen yet.
Also, I wanted to let everyone know that we seem to be of the mind that the next challenge, Historical Appreciation (title is tentative) will overlap with Memorial Day (31 May). If you've got something on your Make-Your-Own list that qualifies for the next challenge, you're invited to wait till Memorial Day and count it for both lists. There's a discussion thread going on, and I would appreciate any feedback and ideas participants might have to offer!

Ugh... I just found out I am basically traveling all month. Just got back from Atl and now going to Tampa next week, then in NJ/NY for two weeks. Add the NBA playoffs and Lost and it's gonna be tough to watch some movies, but I'm gonna give it my best shot.

Just picked the first 20 titles for my random mini-challenge that starts tomorrow
Code:
1. Bratz - Rock Angelz - oh god 2. Cleopatra's Daughter - A sand and sandals movie? I can live with that 3. Sesame Street - Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland - oh god: part 2 4. Abbott And Costello At The Movies - Better than a couple other picks 5. The Prowler - Works for me 6. Buck Rogers - This serial will end up eating a lot of time 7. Goosebumps - The Scarecrow Walks At Night - Don't mind this 8. Employees' Entrance - Sounds good 9. Colossus - The Forbin Project - I can live with this 10. Women of Hell - I bet they're not happy 11. Superman The Movie - I think Superman's a lazy character design but I did buy the set 12. Radio Ranch - No clue what this is about 13. Demented Death Farm Massacre - Sounds fun but it does only have a 1.9 score at imdb 14. Fist of Fear, Touch of Death - Seen it before but that's the pain of having multiple DVDs of the same title 15. Erotic Nightmare - I doubt it'll be anything but awful 16. The Fury Of The Wolfman - Horrible rating at imdb but I think I'll find it decent 17. Extra Weird Sampler - A sampler disc from my Something Weird Video Beauties and Beasts box set 18. Terror On The 40th Floor - Made for tv movie, I think. Should be watchable. 19. Mystery Mansion - They shot this a couple cities over. 20. Baby Einstein - Baby Galileo - Discovering the Sky - Goo Goo Gah Gah

I'm waiting until I tally up the Drive-in challenge, then I'll make my challenge. I've got a few ideas that will only take me half a month.

Bratz: Rock Angels was worse than I imagined. This is coming from a guy that has actually seen some of the worst films available, as in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace is hardly the worst film, or even close to, some of the stuff I've seen.
Elmo in the Adventures of Grouchland wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. It's basically the Sesame Street version of Labyrinth. Enjoyable for kids, tolerable for adults.
I had to take a break from the Buck Rogers serial. I'm about a third of the way in. I'm looking at around another 3 hours, or so.

I'm doing better than I thought it would be doing. 20 so far, my goal was 30. maybe i'll be an over achiever and go for 50 for the month.

Didn't expect that this challenge would lead me to see more than one starring Common and Asia Argento!

I ended up adding a month long challenge to run alongside my minis. I'm using the icheckmovies site and going off my unchecked films, I've sorted by "Number of Top List Entries".
I hit some horror movies in my random challenge and have had kids around, so I figured I'd watch something that won't scar them for life.

A bit late to the party, but I've been attempting to watch every single Joan Crawford and (English-language) Douglas Sirk film I can this month, so I'll go ahead and post my list in the other thread. I've been trying to watch both categories in relative chronological order. My unofficial goal is one film per day from each, including commentaries and documentaries. My list is now also in my sig.

I had that on the Exploitation Checklist because, A: they were "B" Melodramas, and B: they were the direct inspiration for John Waters' Polyester. Ironically, I never even got to watch one. I did watch Mildrid Pierce the other night on TCM-HD. Joan is one of my favorite stars.
Anyway, I don't think I'll get around to this. Gotta prep the Historical/Westerns challenge.
