The Barbara Stanwyck Collection (Universal Backlot): 4/27/10
From Classic Flix:
I already own the two Sirk titles, so I'll probably just Netflix the others. Nice to see someone other than Sony still releasing DVDs though.
Proving they have not abandoned their Backlot series, nor standard DVD releases, Universal has announced an April 27th release date for The Barbara Stanwyck Collection.
The 3-disc set spans 19 years over Ms. Stanwyck's career and boasts such co-stars as Joel McCrea (twice), Fred MacMurray, Joan Bennett, Brian Donlevy, Maureen O'Sullivan, Robert Benchley and Lloyd Nolan.
Bonus features will be trailers for a few of the titles. Retail will be $49.98.
Films include: Internes Can't Take Money (1937), The Great Man's Lady (1942), The Bride Wore Boots (1946), The Lady Gambles (1949), All I Desire (1953) and There's Always Tomorrow (1956).

Just after I bought this at BN.com, the new york times, says Universal screwed up its best movie. "One of the great American movies, “There’s Always Tomorrow” has inspired reams of critical thought since its rediscovery in the 1970s. But inexcusably Universal is offering it here, not in the widescreen format in which it was made, but in a full-frame transfer probably intended for broadcast television and the narrow screens of yesteryear. This version severely compromises Sirk’s compositions (and is soft and muddy to boot); no serious collector would want to own it."
Everyone needs to email Universal and get them to make replacement disks made if the NYT is right.. I know there are alternatives for this movie for region free players.
