Normally, I respond to remarks like this by asking what stake the person making the remark has in such things. I think it's a carryover from one of my sports pet peeves (which is to hear fans refer to themselves as part of the team: "We won" is bad enough, but it lights me up to hear things like, "We're overpaying [insert name]."). This time, though, I'll simply point out that Up was released nine months after Madagascar 2 and was only 1,137,502 units shy of tying it. Not bad, really.

Re: The Numbers: Top Selling DVD's of 2009
I totally agree with you about the "we" sports thing but I think it's a bit different with something like this. Pizza was probably a fan of the movie Up so it makes sense that he/she wants the movie to succeed and do well. I see nothing wrong with that. If I like a piece of art whatever it be, I want the creator of that art to be successful. Thus leading to more art from said artist.
What I meant to bring up in my original post (but didn't) was how interesting it is to me that so many of the top ten best-selling titles are clearly marketed at families with younger children--half of the top ten. Of the other five, three are geek-centric (Transformers, Trek and Wolverine), one is a chick flick (Proposal) and the best-seller is...what? A geeky-chick flick? Whatever Twilight's demographic name, I'm still curious at how this list doesn't strongly suggest a lot of single male purchasing. Or is it that there just weren't that many "guy" movies last year?
