That is the downside of using amazon marketplace as the pricelist - it shows what someone is asking for an item, not what someone has paid for it recently. ebay completed auctions are really the only simple way to determine what folks are willing to pay for an item, unless there is some way to look at historical amazon marketplace purchases.

It's a double edge sword. The completed auctions does not show the true value of the DVD neither since somebody could have purchased at a really good price. Frankly, as stated in my original post, we could discuss this back and forth so how about if we use AM as a placecard and if there's any discrepancy, we could revised it using the latest completed auctions from Ebay.

Edit - Forgot to add that this thread is supposed to be used merely for people to be aware of what's the average going price of these regular edition dvds and is not intended to be a "Beckett Guide" for DVDs. The prices listed shouldn't be seen as absolute.

I certainly have no intention of getting rid of mine. It'll be a long dry spell before I see stuff like The Angel Collection coming out on Blu. Frankly, at the rate things are going it's probably wishful thinking that it will ever come out on Blu. Well, maybe The Angel Collection is something I can live without, but you get the general idea. :)

Stella Dallas - official MGM release seems to be going for $30 or more for new or like new condition on Ebay and Amazon. Argh! I used to own this and wanted to pick it up again. Classic titles are going to turn up more and more like this as Blu takes over. Not as many classic titles will make the leap over to Blu as they did from VHS to DVD. Classic titles might make a good investment down the line but then again with burn on demand sevices going now some of these might eventually be available this way but not pressed just DVDR.

In that same vein, Paramount is letting some classic stuff slip out of print also. The prices aren't high yet, but the old Frank Capra flicks Broadway Bill - $32.97/$12.44 and Riding High - $69.99/$8.50 will be creeping up in value over the next year as supply starts drying up.
