Hm.
Maybe, before loaning a DVD out, you guys should ask for security deposits. Make someone pay you the replacement costs for a DVD that is damaged or lost up-front, and then return the full amount of money to them when the disc is safely returned. It would probably be seen as a dick move, but the borrowing party is taking your valuable property from your possession for their own personal use, so it seems quite equitable to hold their money while they're keeping and using your property. |

A similar thing happened to me. I let my friend borrow my Sin City deluxe edition. He ended up stepping on the case and crushing it. He offered me the discs back as they were unharmed. I told him I want the $35 I originally paid for it. He has yet to pay me and this was well over a year ago.

amaray case. however your attitude proves exactly what we have been talking about! people don`t give a shit and have no guilt or concience! if i borrowed something and destroyed it, basic manners and good upbringing would make me feel so bad that i would of course replace the whole thing without even asking!! when borrowing an item it is an unwritten law that i should be treated with respect and returned in the same flawless state!! thats just coming from someone i guess who still had parents that tought manners and values.... unfortunately in today`s society there are too many punks who don`t give a shit about anything but themselves and don`t even feel guilty or responsible when they damaged something. also, when i borrowed movies from friends in the past, every once in a while i would buy them a dvd as a present just to show my appreciation and to thank them! friendships where just one side borrows for free all the time and never gives anything in return as a token of appreciation are not really healthy friendships either. thats just taking advantage of friends in order to save rental costs. i agree with other users that it can be a great experience to recommend a friend a cool movie that you would like to share, but usually in these cases you actually have to insist he borrows it and the whole lending idea is coming from your side. people or so called "friends" who would never spend 1 dime in a blockbuster and take advantage of you as a free alternative i have luckily learned to spot from miles away :D |
