How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Some of you own big amounts of DVDs. I try and finish a DVD Set before I buy another just so that I got my money's worth and watched it

I try and watch what I do own before my next payday, even if I don't finish. I do the complsive thing where every two weeks I by at least 2 or 3 new DVDs.

Do any of you watch and finish your unwatched pile before buying more DVDs?
I don't know why but buying DVDs is a addictive hobby of mine. I love building on to my collection

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Probably over 600, and quite a few of them Blu Ray.

I used to be great about it - buy some movies, watch them before buying any more. Once longer runtime discs started coming (full seasons of anime and TV shows, and then boxsets of them (Buffy: 108 hours, Six Feet Under: 63 hours)), I started to get behind. I tend to buy new releases as they're often cheaper during the first week than a few weeks down the road, and I started picking up piles of discs at store closing sales ($0.50 per DVD at Hollywood Video), recently I picked up quite a few new releases at Blockbuster/Hollywood in their $5 used sales.

Being busy lately, it's hard to find time to get to them all. I tend to want to watch the newer titles a purchase, spending most of my time watching those and then going back to a couple older titles per week.

It's really the TV shows that messed me up though

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Hundreds of them. However, I carefully research each title before I buy it so none are truly blind buys.

Why acquire so many when I haven’t watched the ones I have? Simple. I think we’re heading towards the end of physical media releases. Many of the titles that I really want to have are obscure films from the thirties and forties, particularly classic comedies. I’ve been buying like crazy to stay ahead of the OOP curve and it’s amazing how many titles have gone away already. I seriously doubt that many of them will ever make it to BR or any other physical format. If they are ever released again, it will likely be in the form of over-priced, under-featured burn-on-demand titles. More likely, I think the future of media is a DRM-crippled, semi-“ownership” pay-per-view type system. While there may be an increasingly limited window in which to buy those titles before they go out of print, I have years and decades ahead to enjoy them at my leisure.

At one time I had over 500 unwatched out of about 1000 dvds--I kept buying even though I wasn't watching many. I'm down to 6 unwatched out of 2000+ owned now.

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Those of with more than 5 or so, or if you want to track them, please step this way to the unwatched movie pile thread...
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk/56...mber-09-a.html

Those threads help me a lot. Of course, I had Friday night to myself, so what do I do - instead of watching something off the unwatched list, I watched something I have watched before-Starship Troopers. I was just in the mood for it.

I think I"m at 286. I count by package as shown in DVD Profiler so Buffy complete series, for instance is 40 separate disks (child profiles), while Six Feet Under is 5 (one per season). It's not totally scientific but it gets the job done and lets me cross things off before the season/series is completely finished.

I haven't been buying too much in the past year or so, a big chunk of mine was from TRSI 25/100 deals, and occasional other good deals. Like Drak says, I think they're going to really push DD or VOD, and I like physical media. Plus much of what I'm interested in is not likely to be on Blu Ray, even if DD fails. And some of them, especially TV series, are super deals, and I've got in on some other pretty good deals.

I don't rent, and I don't watch current TV shows with the exception of the Simpsons on Hulu or Fox.com, and I don't follow sports, so the only other thing I use the TV for is video games.

Too many to count. I agree with drak b. DVDs will not be around forever and many go OOP. I'd rather get them now and watch them one of these days.

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

At least 100, most are piled up in a separate section on my shelves while others are included in alphabetical order on the shelf. A lot of them came from going out of business sales (Hollywood Video/Blockbuster/mom & pop stores) and cheap

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Around 5,700 movies. I'm counting individual movies instead a double feature as 1.

When I started doing the unwatched thread back in May 2007, I was at 3,051.

To give an idea of my buying habits, I need to update my signature. I broke 9,000 in October.

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Way too many. But most are prequels/sequels that I only bought to complete a series, or things like the many many scooby-doo animated movies that I own that I've only watched one of, and some are titles that I saw back when I was a kid on TV or in the theater but still have yet to get around to watching it again on DVD. There are also a hand full of titles that I saw in the theater not too long ago so I'll probably wait a year or so before I watch them again. But as far as the size of my list of unwatched titles that do not fit into the categories above... Maybe 20 or so...

I agree I am doing the same thing buying a lot of titles I feel will go OOP or
have gone OOP.
I have probably 300-325 movies or TV shows to watch and Big Lots and Dollar Tree are not helping my unwatched pile.

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Out of the 3000-ish DVD/Blu-rays I have, probably 150 or so are unwatched. But I buy them purposely so that when I do want to see something new, I've always got something new to watch.

Re: How Many Unwatched DVD's do you own?

Probably around 150 or so. I watch everything at least once before I put it onto the shelf witht he rest of the colelction. I recently shifted some of the collection around, and freed up a couple of shelves to put some of the unwatched on. Now hopefully it wont be out of sight out of mind and I will get through it a bit.
