Re: "Superman Returns" the Bryan Singer Cut

I too thought many of Smallville's episodes were better than SR.
The Lex Luthor of the tv show is very intriguing and instead of trying to top that, they go back to the campy goofball interpretation from the late 70s.

I don't think that the new cut will be enough to make this retread of the Donner film any better.

Re: "Superman Returns" the Bryan Singer Cut

Since the first two movies were great I can see why go back to continue that story line.

Re: "Superman Returns" the Bryan Singer Cut

I can too. At the time I thought it was a great idea. But I think it shows (in execution) that the director was insecure about his own abilities if he felt like he couldn't bring that much new to the table.

It was like, "remember how awesome the first two were? Well what if Lois got knocked up and he left..." and that's the whole movie. Remembering how good Christopher Reeve and the Richard Donner made the first two.

I like Nolan's approach to the Batman franchise better.

I also found The Adventures of Superboy to have had better stories.

That isn't what Sanity said, he said "why did they make this movie?" period.

I agree more with you that they should have gone in a different direction not that they shouldn't have made the movie.

They do work... rarely. When Jericho was canceled after the first season, there was a petition to save the show. It worked and we got a second season to wrap up most of the dangling plot lines. It was ultimately canceled again due to low viewership, but we would never have gotten that second season without the petition.

So yes, petitions can work, but the chance of success is something like 1 in 10,000,000.

And weren't petitions partially responsible for the Donner Cut of Superman II?

I hope you were at home at the time.

He probably realized that the theater lobby had more action than the movie itself.

Heheh...I showed it to him on DVD. Should have qualified that he walked out of the living room...not the theater. He went to play with some toys and told me to call him if there was a good part. I presume he meant something that actually involved some action.

Yeah....what we need is Supes kicking ass and getting his ass kicked by a Super Villain. There's only so much I can care for Supes saving people and CG things.

Huh. I have at times a notoriously short attention span and I was entertained throughout. Didn't think it was great but I thought it was a successful update.

So...did you ever call him back in?

LOL!

Yeah, I called him in at the end for the final set piece when Supes lifted the big rock. To say that my son was underwhelmed would be an understatement.
