Question about alternate angle icon...

My DVD of GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES (the ADV release) offers an alternate angle feature where you can shuttle back and forth between the actual movie and the storyboards. The problem is, on two DVD players I've played it on the alternate angle icon glares onscreen the entire time and I don't know how to remove it. On one player (a Pioneer) the icon takes the form of a camera. On another, a Phillips, it takes the form of "1/2".

Why do they do that?

Is there a way to get that friggin' icon off the screen while I'm watching the movie?

Thanks.

P.S. And is this the correct forum to be posting this question in?

Check your dvd player settings screens. Every player I've seen allows you to turn the icon off either specifically or turn off on-screen-display icons in general.

Yes, I think this is the right forum, but actually, the DVD Hardware (or whatever it's called) subforum is probably better.

So it's keeping the icon on the screen even when you go back to the main view? Or all the time even if you never check out the alternate angle?

I think i had this problem on one of my old DVD players and found a setting buried in it's menus.

On Pioneer players it's called Angle Mark, set that to Off. If it comes on while playing you should be able to hit the Display button until it goes away. I've heard of some players not letting you get rid of it, but thankfully I've never had one of those.

I have a Pioneer too, and just go to the main setup menu and turn it off

My first player did this. Whenever there was another angle present, it would display the icon. Whether I switched to the other one or not, and whether i was on the second angle or the first, whenever multi angles were present, that icon was there. Very annoying. Had to hunt in the menus and finally ended up turning off all on screen messages. I could still hti display to get the time/chapter info about the disc. And time remaining in a chapter and on the disc. No player since that first Toshiba SD2109 has been able to do that.

I think there was a specific Phillips region free player that would not allow for the icon to get rid off but I don't remember the model. I know I had it and had to get rid of it for that.
