I just picked up a four-pack (two dvd set) of Dracula movies:

Horror of Dracula
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave
Taste the Blood of Dracula
Dracula A.D. 1972

I'm looking forward to watching them.

Have they ever been released as a set?

Never a complete R1 set because as others have touched on in other Hammer threads, US rights are all over the place as far as distribution. I'm sure others will come in with more detailed info.

Anyways, great purchase on the 4 Film Favorites collection, its a great set!

No, because different companies have the rights to the films.

Warner has the four in your set. Universal has Brides. The rest were licensed from Hammer and released through Anchor Bay.

I know that some of the titles Anchor Bay released are OOP and pricey, perhaps they can be had cheaper if you have region 2 capabilities. That is the route I plan to go when I decide its time to own them.

My favorite is Dracula Has Risen From the Grave. I remember first seeing it on CBS late movies back in the 1970s. I wonder who did the editing in that movie because Dracula can see his reflection in the water as the Vicor looks on.

"Satanic" can be found in public domain sets under the title "Count Dracula and his Vampire Bride".

edit - turns out I already own "Count Dracula and his Vampire Bride" - it's on the 50 Drive In Movies set from Mill Creek.

Dracula the prince of Darkness (1966) is a tough one to get.
I should of gotten it years ago when it was readily available, but I waited on it
and now today it's the only one I don't have. You can probably still get it but it'll cost
a lot more, I also think there's a 2-disc version of this. But again it's very pricey now.

Yeah, Anchor Bay released a 2-disc version of Prince along with Satanic Rights, I believe. It was simply a repackaging of the single discs into a hinged keepcase. This Anchor Bay version of Satanic is widescreen non-anamorphic, but a really clean print. Miles better than the later PD versions running around. If you're going to track down these OOPs, then this would probably be the one to concentrate on as you get to kill two birds with one stone.

Also, along the same lines, Anchor Bay did a 2-disc of Golden Vampires along with Frankenstein Created Woman.

I actually found two copies of this at Borders about two weeks ago. It's was $19.99. So folks may want to look around.

Just watched Rasputin The Mad-Monk the other night with cast talking about the making of this film!

I was under the impression that the Hammer films Anchor Bay released are now with Blue Underground. But, so far, they have no plans to re-release them.

I think I will wait, in the hopes of a re-release at some point. I can't justify spending what people are asking for used copies of the Anchor Bay releases.

Is there much point in watching them in order?

Did you see that somewhere? Or know that Bill Lustig was the one that got the distribution rights? Or just assuming since so many other titles have gone to BU?

I never saw anything definitive regarding the old Anchor Bay Hammer rights. I will say that this rumor is about a year old and there's been squat done thus far. I suppose it stands to reason that somebody will do something eventually, but I haven't heard of anything resembling a schedule.

Yes. Each one picks up right where the last one left off from HORROR OF DRACULA thru TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA, skipping BRIDES OF DRACULA. Can't remember if SCARS picks up at the end of TASTE THE BLOOD or not. Now I've got a reason to watch it again to find out. DRACULA A.D. 1972 has a prologue that resembles the previous movies' ending- beginning of the earlier films but it is not the ending of SCARS, just a stand alone prologue.

We'll probably never see a R1 Twins of Evil or Vampire Circus.

Too bad, as Vampire Circus is a hoot.

One title on your list, 7 Brothers Meet Dracula is on that Anchor Bay double as Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires It's pretty awful. But it's full length. I think some versions are cut down.

Dracula Prince of Darkness / The Satanic Rites of Dracula can be had used for under $30 at Amazon.

Brides of Dracula is in the Hammer Horror Collection.

Dracula Has Risen from the Grave, Taste the Blood of Dracula, and The Horror of Dracula are all in the Horror Classics Collection. This is by far the best set.

I was watching Vampire Circus(R2) the other day and the damn thing wouldn't play in my player. But don't worry-I also have it on laserdisc and it was watched to completion.

I've never understood what's keeping Twins of Evil from being released. Is it a rights issue or does whoever own the rights just not think it will be a profitable product?

Vampire Circus and Twins of Evil are controlled by MGM, and MGM is too busy trying not to go bankrupt to bother with genre catalog releases. Hopefully someday, if they ever resurrect their Midnite Movie line.

Yes it is. I have them all seperately. But if you're just starting out with Hammer I'd tell you to start here with this set.

Yeah, the feeling I kind of always had was they have the attitude of "why bother". It certainly wouldn't make them a boatload of cash.

Too bad...they scream for a double feature like Countess Dracula/Vampire Lovers got. I think most of the Midnite Movie line stinks personally but that is one where they hit a home run.
