DVD shipping question
I just completed an auction,
I want to ship the DVDs, none of them have cases, I don't wish to buy cases for each of them. How should I ship them/present them to the mail person? Just bring the DVDs in a bag and tell them to handle it? Thanks. |
Re: DVD shipping question
 I just read your other posts on the forum.
If you're serious, then this is one of the most pathetic questions ever asked. |
Re: DVD shipping question
I am serious. I do realize the DVDs will fit in a box that the mail room provides. The problem is that DVDs without a case are considered loose. But I have no obligation to provide a case for any of the DVDs because my auction specifically states the DVDs come with no case. I have no cases for the DVDs. I am just asking what do I do.

Re: DVD shipping question
maybe put them in those paper sleeves with the round cellophane window
|
Re: DVD shipping question
I have 100+ DVDs, where can I find a DVD binder for that, and approximately how much does one cost? Is there a cheaper method in keeping the DVDs safe? Is there anyway the mail room can put the DVDs in a package and then put that package in another package and that will suffice?
|
Re: DVD shipping question
How about putting each one in an envelope? Or a folded over piece of paper taped shut. The possibilities are endless.

Re: DVD shipping question
i feel real bad for whoever bought your auction. and i just hope you were dead honest and made it known what they were getting. and to not research and have this set to go with all this prior is the questionable nature to which i speak of.

Re: DVD shipping question
You can get 100 paper cases/sleeves for like 10 bucks, maybe less. Don't be so cheap.

It's your responsibility to package and mail your shit. Buy some inexpensive paper sleeves. Put one disc per sleeve. Two stacks of 50 should fit in one of the post office's new flat-rate boxes. Pad any empty space with wadded up newspaper or paper towel. How did you end up with more than 100 DVDs without cases? Shoplifting? Are you the reason all my DVDs come with latches and three pieces of tape sealing the cases shut?

I fear the whoever bought these discs is screwed. |
Re: DVD shipping question
Please provide your auction i.d. so we know who to avoid. I mean, really: didn't you pause for a nano-second to think this through before you listed them?

Re: DVD shipping question
I bought something similar to this in Target - amazon.com/Travel-Case-DVD-Koskin-256/dp/B000R5B5B6/ref=sr_1_41?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1252895352&sr=1-41
I put approximately 200 DVDs in there (there were more than I thought because of the TV shows that have more than 1 DVD). After I put the DVDs in there, the case feels like it weighs 10 lbs. Can something with so much weight be mailed? What is the maximum? Thanks. |

Re: DVD shipping question
The paper-sleeve method does work - they're cheap (~50 for $1.99), light (lower weight = lower shipping cost) and don't add much bulk (smaller package = lower shipping cost). However, they have been known to leave light scratches on discs (putting them in or taking them out), especially if they're in a loose package just floating around (this could be a problem if they arrive in a worse condition than described).
The same can be true about a spindle or even the 3-ring-binder type books/sheets. The easiest way without causing too much trouble would probably be the white paper sleeves - put one disc per case (don't try to be cheap and double-stack them!), and tape them shut tight (so the disc doesn't float in them). Secure them inside the box somehow (preferably with foam or packing peanuts) and make sure they're in a box (I've had discs cracked in the padded envelopes before) |
Re: DVD shipping question
There's no way that transaction is going to go well - the guy is charging $25 in shipping when this won't cost more than $10 tops. You could throw a binder in a flat-rate priority box and be set. |

Re: DVD shipping question
packaging these for shipping should have been figured out long before you even put them up for auction.

Re: DVD shipping question
Just stack them in a box, but make sure there's no extra space so the DVDs will fit well.
|
Re: DVD shipping question
Make sure to mail them as Media Mail, it is cheaper. I agree with the paper sleeve approach. Also, I keep many of the boxes I receive from on-line DVD orders for the very purpose of having decent boxes for shipping DVDs back out.

Re: DVD shipping question
Actually you can only ship 13.5 ounces in one package. So, you're going to have send several separate packages. The best way would be a separate box for each DVD and use about 10.5 ounces of foam rubber for padding with each DVD.

Re: DVD shipping question
God why am I even responding. Anyway, you can put 70 pounds in a medium flat rate priority box for about $10. A large flat rate is available for about $11.

Best. Thread. Ever. (But I still miss Danol!)

Re: DVD shipping question
I asked a postal worker for you tonight, and here is what he recommended:
1) Stack all of the discs on a sheet of plastic wrap, this can be found for under $2 at any grocery store. 2) Wrap the discs up tightly and securely in the plastic wrap, sealing them tightly in the plastic. 3) Purchase a roll of white duct tape and cover the entire plastic-wrapped stack of discs in it. 4) Write your name and address and the buyer's name and address anywhere on the package. My postal worker recommended your name on the top of the stack, and the buyer's name on the bottom of the stack. Be VERY careful not to switch them around. 5) Attach $8.00 worth of stamps to the package. I would recommend putting them around the package in rings of stamps that connect, like stamp belts, basically. 6) Drop the package into any mailbox. 7) Receive positive eBay feedback. Hope this helps! |

A person this utterly naive could not really own and enjoy Glengarry Glen Ross, could he? Boy Meets World makes sense. But not GgGR. |
Re: DVD shipping question
Glengarry Glen Ross was the toughest one to sell.

Assuming a ship isn't going to do the job, which is only good for country to country delivery for the most part, you need to do airmail. For that you'll want to go to the airport and talk to customer service unless you already know which airline you want the stuff to get sent on. |

Re: DVD shipping question
My vote is for hand delivery. That would be the cheapest. Deliver the package yourself.
