Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release Calendar & Discussion Thread

Finally! I've been waiting forever for the release date for Night At The Museum. I do think it's a little funny how Terminator and Night At The Museum opened the same weekend and now they're being released on DVD the same day.

And I agree, this whole thing with The Hangover is pissing me off too. I found one website that says the release date is December 15th but that's all I could find.

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release Calendar & Discussion Thread

Videoeta has Public Enemies listed for a December release. It does not say which exact date, just one of those "We have been provided the DVD release date for this movie but are prohibited from disclosing it until Oct 6."

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release Calendar & Discussion Thread

I have somewhat of an idea as to why a lot of these are taking so long coming on DVD. dont forget last year at this time there was a writers strike in hollywood, which is why Warner Pushed Harry potter and the Half blood Prince to summer. Basically if you look at July's releases there were only about ten theatrical releases like Watchmen, Coroline, etc released. and only a handful in august as well. basically the strike last year put a big hole in the release schedule and a lot of studios had to adjust releases. So unlike last year where 80% of the summers releases were out on DVD before Dec31st, this year wont have les then 60% of its summer releases out by Dec 31st this year, with films like Hurt Locker, Post Grad, and Halloween 2 not scheduled until January

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release Calendar & Discussion Thread

What are you talking about only 60%? Every film that opened in wide release (over 1000 theaters) in May, June, and July has an official DVD or a yet unannounced (Public Enemies) release date before the 31st of December except for The Collector and (500) Days Of Summer. Not only that but films that opened in August are already getting DVD dates before the 31st such as Julie and Julia and G.I. Joe (though not official, videoeta has the date and says it's November, just not which day). That is well over 60%.

Very well spoken. If you have insider information that's awesome, just be sure to quote sources if you are able to.
I wish there was something new to announce but with The Hangover now officially having a set date it seems we are now at that stage where we are waiting for August releases to get DVD dates. Hopefully they'll start coming soon.

well i was in a series of meetings the past two weeks. and i can tell you this, the only movie that is somewhat big news is District 9 and from what i understand sony is going the same direction they did last year with pineapple express and skipping the holiday season.

however Someone told me this morning that MGM/UA wants to position Fame as a 4th Quarter Buy, but thats only a rumor

I can tell you via US at BVHE

Ponyo is going to be January and Surragates will be Mid February. Extract will be Late January, and X-Games 3-D the Movie will be sometime in the 1st quarter.

Re: DVD Talk New-To-DVD Theatrical Release Calendar & Discussion Thread

I had a feeling District 9 would most likely be released after Christmas. Like you said, they did the same thing for Pineapple Express, and December has a lot of competition with Terminator, Night At The Museum, Harry Potter, and The Hangover. It does stink though cause I would love for it to be on DVD before Christmas, and nothing is being released this point on Dec. 22nd so I wonder why they wouldn't release it then? Everything else sounds accurate.

dont kid yourself too much about Dec 22nd. I cant really announce dates for other studios. but we can say there are about six Wide Theatrical releases scheduled for that day. The only one rumoed so far is final destination that you guys were talking about, but Warner Bros, Fox, and Universal all have releases on that day
