Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

Are the TWEC steelbooks usually pretty limited? I have TF1 in the steelbook that I got on release week and the completist in me wants to get the new one, but can't seem to justify that cost this week. Was just curious if they are usually around for a while or if they are limited, so I can get it when they drop down in price back to release week prices or lower.

Any help appreciated.

Sometimes they stick around. I got my Iron Man steel 2 months ago on sale for $19.99. My FYE still has copies of Dark Knight and Indiana Jones 4. I remember the first TF steel selling out quickly but if this is anything like Iron Man or Indy 4, they'll more than likely have dozens if not hundreds of copies in stock.

The TWEC is tough to gauge. I know my local store sold out of the transformers 1 steelbooks pretty quickly. Within the first week or so. Indy 4 stuck around for ages though. I just reserve them and buy them on release day, that way I get them on sale, get the rebate and am as close to guaranteed a copy as I can get. My local store didnt have the overflowing amount of these that they have had for other steelbooks in the past. Could be because it is also available in a regular case. I dont think Indy was available at TWEC in a regular case. Could be wrong, though.

Agreed with these guys. It's a tough one. The FYE still has a ton of Indiana Jones and Iron Man around, but I got the TF steelbook almost a week after it came out, and at that point there were only like five or six copies left. The next time I went in they were all gone.

If the completist side of you is that crazy, then just go for it. Worst case scenario: you get your pick of the litter and get the best copy, and will still see it in stores from time to time. If you don't think it will bother you, then hold off.

Not intended to be a threadcrap, but I saw the Optimus vs. Decepticons forest fight on Blu-Ray at Wal-Mart the other night (they had it on endless loop).

Is that the best action sequence in the film, because if it is, what a souless experience? The CGI was very solid and the action was easy to follow, but it became very repetitive and the finale of it failed to impress me at all.

I agree,I might pick it up in a few months at the pawnshop on blu-ray if less then $7.

i'm sure it is here somewhere, but what exactly is the difference in the Walmart version with the IMAX scenes...it just looks better/crisper with different aspect ratio in certain parts?

Um, it was filmed on 70mm IMAX film, so it has a lot higher resoltuion which means better clarity. Because it's such a high resolution you'll get a lot of detail and less grain and more clarity. Pretty much it's like combining the best parts of digital and the best parts of film.

even on DVD, i could pretty much tell the difference. And someone needs to tell Michael Bay (and to an extent JJ Abrams, to please stop over using anamorphic lens flares, i don't mind if their used sparringly, but it seems like its every other shot or so when any of the transformers are on screen.

just an fyi, if there are plenty of steelbooks left at your store, the second week price may shoot up. i believe the "regular" price of this fye exclusive is $34.99. some stores may keep the $25.99 pricing for a while, some may not.

Its a crock of shit. They had banners up months ago saying "DVD $14.99, Special Edition DVD $22.99, Bluray $24.99" only for me to find out its $25.99 but $22.99 after $3 rebate. I said "suck it" and asked for my $5 reserve back and bought the Walmart version for $20 instead.

If you're a true completionist then you would have gotten both versions of twecs tf1 steelbooks.

This is incorrect information. Yes it was shot in 70mm IMAX which was scanned at 4k vs 35mm 2k, but the non IMAX versions (disc & theatrical prints) have taken the same material originally shot on 70mm and letterboxed it to fit the 2.40 aspect ratio. So the only applicable difference for us at home is that the "Big Screen Edition" is uncropped. Those scenes will be sharper, even though they are all downsized to a uniform pixel count, but the Big Screen version vs the non Wal Mart discs will be the same sharpness - again just not cropped.

Turns out that's not the case. In addition to the changing aspect ratio, the Big Screen blu-ray is also noticeably sharper and better detailed in those two IMAX scenes than the regular Blu-ray (the rest of the movie is identical). It's also 32 seconds longer, though I'll be damned if I could tell you what was added.

I have a full review of the Big Screen disc on High-Def Digest today, including time codes for every IMAX shot.

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

I know I am rather late on this, but it has to be a movie I will endlessly watch for me to purchase a dvd of it.

I actually was waiting until I finally got a bluray player to purchase this as my first bluray.

I am confused, does the walmart exclusive bluray have the most content of any version?

I have a 47 inch LCD tv and I want this baby to be EPIC.

Epic visually you would want the Wal-Mart edition as its the only one that has the IMAX scenes in it. As far as extras though, others will chime in on that.

extras are the same. the doc on disc 2 is about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and its not all fluff. You can see why people say Bay is a hard ass to work with.

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

So Wal-Mart exclusive bluray has the best visually and the same features as all other versions, probably minus 30 minutes from the Target edition?

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

I found slight variations on different websites between the bluray and sd 2 disc:

the sd 2 disc has

"Credits" after "Running the Gauntlet"...but that isn't on the bluray or it isn't listed

"Deconstructing..." is a minute longer on the sd 2 disc than the bluray, can anyone confirm?

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

Walmart version runs approx. 39 sec longer on SD (32 sec on BD) so the 150min is unique to the that version.

Re: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen---Oct 20th

Description of the IMAX extended scenes for Transformers 1 (which will hopefully be released to DVD)...

Spoiler:
First off, there was no more than TWO MINUTES of extra footage, dialouge, etc. NONE of the footage contained new CG. I will list the new scenes in order of appearance.

1. Additional footage with Sam and Miles - (Placed right before arriving at the party on the lake with Sam's friend Miles) Sam arrives at Mile's house with his brand "new" ride. Miles lives on a hill, it looks something like San Francisco. They exchange a few words before jumping in and cutting to the next scene (original scene of Miles and Sam driving up to the lake party)

2. Extended cop interrogation scene - After the 50-cent line and Sam saying "Are you on drugs??" There is about a minute more of dialouge between the cop, Sam's dad, and Sam. There is another kid in the background with a mohawk being held for some other charge. The officer tells Sam's dad he needs to see a video to "get the message". It is the old "Don't do drugs" video of the girl swinging the frying pan around the kitchen. Sam grumbles that he gets the message and they are finally out of the police station. Here is a link to the video they make him watch! It's classic, especially if you are a Robot Chicken fan! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyXFN4ocN_o

3. Extra bits in the Sector Seven Escalade after being taken from Sam's house - After asking the kids about aliens, Simmons attaches some archaic looking device with a tube and eye attachment over Sam's right eye ball. A screen he is holding has a blown up view of Sam's eye. He is using this device to determine how truthful Sam is being. He calls him a liar again and detaches the device. Mikela then says her line about him being a mall cop. Then Simmons gives the line of "Criminals are hot..." but this dialouge is extended and he makes another comment about how he would know from his line of work but not from personal experience or something. Then the ticker goes crazy and Prime stops the car.

4. Hoover Dam briefing - Before Simmons talks about NBE's to everyone outside the dam, he has some lines about Area 51. "You guys have heard of Area 51?" "yeah" "Well this is Area 50!" then continue to NBE lines.

5. Pre AllSpark and "Energizer Bunny From Hell" extended scene - The dialouge "You're about to see our crown jewel..." is extended and the footage is completely different. They are outside of the office where they view the AllSpark from. Simmons goes on some rant about how all the presidents have been in this room since Hoover, and they are going to get the opportunity that only presidents have gotten. He names each president quickly and it is quite humorous. Calls our president "W". Then they go into the room and the scene continues as normal.

6. Rhonda's Pawn Shop revealed - This is the best of all the extra footage. Lennox is pleading with the owner of a pawn shop to give him the short-wave radios Eps uses to radio the Raptors. Lennox is doing a bad job and gets frustrated at which the robust pawn shop owner pulls a gun on him. He flatters the woman and she is charmed. She gives him the radios and the scene cuts back to the regular scene of Lennox handing the radios to Epps.

7. Extended IMAX Credits - I guess this counts? There is a static scene of IMAX Credits at the end of all the other credits.

Worth your time? The scenes are not, however the large scale of the screen and the sound was awesome. Prime's voice rumbled the room. We still know nothing of Barricade's fate and we still are left wondering if Starscream may have fired upon his commander in chief, Megatron.
