Here's a hypothetical test for you DVD consumers to see where your obsessive-compulsiveness stands!

Remember, this test is for films that you ONLY LIKE, NOT LOVE. I say that because most DVD buyers will always buy the most expensive DVD version of the film they love.

All of the above DVDs would be ANAMORPHIC as well.

Movie is all that matters to me. Give me the $5 no frills, no cover. They can even keep the case.

Number 5, of course - as a DIGIPAK.

However, I never buy a new or used DVD until the price is right - meaning around $9.00... anywhere in the world, shipping included.

I rarely even watch any extras anyways, but I need case artwork. Having a thousand identical cases with no artwork would make it take longer to find the movie I want to watch than to actually watch it.

I went with the $10 one. There was a time when I would have gone the $20 or $25 route, but I finally realized that since I usually don't bother checking out the extras anyway, I shouldn't pay more for them. Artwork is a must though.

$5 works for me. With the blank cases, I'd finally be able to condense my collection into binders like I've been wanting to.

I don't need the digital copy, but otherwise, the more extras the better. If I like a film enough to own it, I want the extras.

This is what I picked. I really don't need the extras, just the full uncut movie
and case art work. Although there are exceptions. Once in a while when a historical movie comes out I would pay for the extras if it included a historical documentary. The last DVD I paid more for the extras was Valkyrie, because it came with the historical documentary. But this is getting rarer, and rarer these days. I'd say 95% of the time-$10 5%- $20-25.
But I did pick $10 just to confirm what I would buy.

I agree with these posts. The only reason that I went with the $5 one is I dont really care about the covers at this point. I can get a new slim case, and print out a new cover for way less than $5. I rarely watch the extras.

Why does it cost $5 extra for the artwork? It can't cost more then a few pennies to print out cover art and yet it's $5 extra in this poll?

None of the above. I want all the extras but don't want to pay more than about $5 usually (mainly used or through Columbia House)

Why would DVD distributors charge 7 dollars extra for one extra documentary that one would only watch once anyway? Not worth it as well...

Just send me the disc for $2.50. I'll buy extra cases on my own and if necessary print out my own artwork.

Unless it's a film that I really want I don't care about the extras. DTS would be a bonus but not necessary with a comparable DD5.1 track.

So I'd opt for the $5 choice and if it kicks ass then I'd consider the higher priced options depending on what's available.

For me, I'd go with the $5 option, unless a director's/ actors' commentary track is added, then I'd go $7. I don't care about artwork or other bonus materials.

$10 option. Don't care about extras. As long as the movie is there with good technical specs I'm all set. As a collector, I do want a case though

Typically when you have a SKU without bonus features and one with bonus features there is more then one documentary on the SKU with the bonus features.

You still didn't explain why a piece of paper would cost $5 extra. I guess in your scenario I would just get the $5 version and print my own cover.

I didn't vote - I want DTS, bare bones, Cover art, an insert and in a Thinpak.

I'm a little surprised with some of these responses... From other threads, the idea of digital downloads seem to be pretty universally despised. But for those of you that just want a disc, sans extras and case/artwork - why not just pay a few dollars to download and burn yourself (if that was a viable option)?

I suppose there is concern about the longevity of writable DVDs as opposed to factory pressed, but would the ability to re-download or keep as a digital file alleviate that concern?

As for me, I'll take the film with good picture and sound and a quality commentary track. Not interested in fluff or promotional featurrettes. But unless you shop at Borders and actually pay MSRP, these prices don't seem to match (at least my) real world purchases. I generally pay under $10 for DVDs and under $15 for Blu-rays, regardless of supplements.

$30 - that's £15, isn't it? That's not a bad deal, at least UK-price-wise.

10$ set for me as well....not an extras/features guy myself. I just want the movie and a decent looking case for the library.
