The Gate SE -----> 10/6/09

Awesome news!!! Just read about this and thought I'd share the news. Very excited as I never got around to getting the old FF dvd that's now OOP. Thank you Lionsgate, but please make sure it's in widescreen. BTW, the cover isn't much to get excited about. Reminds me of The Monster Squad. Still glad to finally get this though.

I oddly kinda like the cover art, despite it marketing the movie in the wrong way...

Yeah, I don't think the cover would have been that bad if the kid was actually Stephen Dorff and not someone random. In fact, the cover art on the old release worked just fine IMO.

I don't remember seeing this movie but it was a long tome ago. It looks really good. Curiously, it is not listed on Amazon yet, perhaps soon.

Re: The Gate SE -----> 10/6/09

One of my personal favorites. I remember being a kid a renting this movie weekly, I missed out on the first DVD that is now OOP so I can't wait to get my hands on this. I knew this was coming out and funny timing because today I emailed Michael Felscher, the guy who's behind the work on the Special Edition, and asked him when it was actually coming out and what the features were on this. Happy I got my answer without having to even wait for a reply. I like the cover but also wish it was Stephen Dorff or at least an image of a kid that slightly looked like Dorff. Dorff didn't even wear sandles in the movie haha.

Re: The Gate SE -----> 10/6/09

This movie freaked me out when I was a kid especially when the eye ball showed up in the kid's hand. That freaked me out. I will be getting this..

I have a bad feeling LG will fuck this up, as they can't seem to do anything right these days.

I've had the R2 Dutch (German?) import of this for a long time now (16x9), but I'd gladly buy this one if it's widescreen. I'll just keep my old case since it uses the awesome one-sheet artwork.

Re: The Gate SE -----> 10/6/09

I guess this type of work "justify" companies needing artists, but really, what's wrong with keeping original cover art, or at least getting a picture from the actual movie or something instead of a random kid? Couldn't they really work on the back cover or the packaging art? And yeah, that troll does look like a pedo-troll.

Re: The Gate SE -----> 10/6/09

horrible cover- why on earth are they revealing what the monsters look like on it? It will ruin it a bit for people who never saw it before.

True enough. But on the other hand, one can be encouraged for the following reasons, too:

1) Lionsgate did a pretty good job with The Monster Squad and the more recent re-release of My Bloody Valentine, two similar 80's cult titles.

2) A "Special Edition" would at the very least seem to imply we'll get a decent WS transfer and probably some extras. I don't think LG would call it an SE if they were giving it the "Lost Collection" treatment.

So here's hoping, because I'm probably going to take a chance and sell off my current FS copy.

Re: The Gate SE -----> 10/6/09

Holllleeee shit! Is this the movie where the giant monster grows up past the kid, who watches in horror as an eyeball grows into his hand?!

If so, I've been looking for this movie since I saw it at about 4 or 5 years old. I had the chickenpox so I was allowed to watch some extra television at night, and for whatever reason my folks weren't around and this movie came on! I watched it for a grand total of about 2 minutes before I saw that eyeball in the kids hand, then I ran upstairs terrified! I never tried to track it down though, I just accepted it as a lost part of my childhood ... until now?

Hell yeah! Saturday the 14th was one of my absolute favorites as a kid. There's a good chance it won't hold up to my memories, but I'd still love to find out.

What the shit is up with the kid on the cover? Good news about the dvd though. I was just asking about The Gate on here (or mentioned it) not long ago.
