He should've sprung for the Hong Kong version of the Bruce Lee box set. It does include ENTER THE DRAGON plus a nice bonus disc of extras.

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
Well, I didn't see his original post, so I have no idea what he said. All I will say is that DVD's are the best. I have no complaints. Even the complaints that everyone has about dual sided discs or those clasp things are ludicrous. What's the big deal?. Means nothing to me. The clasps are kinda cool in my opinion, and they have never snapped off. I am always amused when people fall all over themselves about these minor things that shouldn't even show up on anybody's radar as an issue or a problem. I just don't get it.

He would have said "But the Hong Kong boxset at least HAS Enter The Dragon, but what? It doesn't have the English language track? That's bullshit!Enter The Dragon was filmed in English. Why can't we get the movies we want in their original language at least. And don't get me started on the Pokemon DVDs, which none of them have a Japanese option!"

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
He totally missed the bullshit that is those overlapping DVD cases, which he showed right on his damn video. What if I want to play the disc that's UNDER the other one?? I gotta take the first one out, then where the fuck do I put it while the other one's playing?? If I put it back in the case I'll just have to take it out again to put the other one back!
Missing films in sets due to different companies having the rights to different movies is just something that can't be helped. Maybe they should have called it "The Bruce Lee Fox Movies Collection" or "The Collection Of Bruce Lee Movies That Fox Currently Owns The Rights To". Putting the James Bond movies in the wrong order was stupid too- and multi-disc sets are bullshit- DVD was designed to have 2 sides, so use both fucking sides! (Yes, I know DVD-18s still have a high defect rate, but that just shouldn't be. They've had almost 10 years to get them right. They just like to put as many fucking discs in a set as they can to make it look like more- like 40 discs where each one is under 2 fucking hours- give me 40 fully-loaded DVD-18s and I'll start giving a shit!)
Those lock-thingys on cases are there to make it harder for someone to open the case in the store and swipe the disc. You're actually supposed to break them off once you buy the disc, but I keep them on since I like to keep everything in mint condition.
Sadly, I don't have the talent this guy does to make my own damn video about the issue.

Looking at it again, it appears he has cable. That's TOTAL bullshit. He also has a DVD/VHS machine, which is also bullshit since both parts are as cheap-ass as they can make- one or both will break within a year, plus the VHS probably can't play D-VHS or even S-VHS. He's got small speakers too, and that TV is probably also too small.

Of course, it is the way the film played in Hong Kong back in the day, so there is some historical value to it. It's a slightly different beast than the U.S. version in other ways as well, if I recall correctly.

Haha. I saw this a couple weeks back already and I watch basically everything that this guy does. He's one of my favorite people to watch on the Internet by far. I agree with a lot of what he says but obviously some of it he's just nitpicking probably for more laughs.

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
For awhile, Paramount releases (the first to use the clasps) had a red security strip on the clasp edge with smaller text in addition to SECURITY DEVICE ENCLOSED explaining that you were supposed to twist the clasps off and toss them.
For those who want their DVD cases to look "right" but hate the clasps, they hold really well. What you can do is break them off and then just push them back into the notches. They'll then hold to the top side of the DVD instead of both the top and bottom, and you can open the case without undoing them.

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
You know what...I understand commercials or promos on the BD discs!!! I even understand Trailers on BD Discs!!! WHAT I DON'T FREAKING UNDERSTAND is why I'm forced to watch a 4 minute promo about how good BLU-RAY picture and sound is on a BD Movie!!! Obviously I already own the damn player and know what to expect!!! Put that shit on DVD movies!!! Make it in 1080p if u want and have extra room, but honestly since I'm watching a BD movie, obviously im already sold on the technology and already have a player!!!

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
There were some parts that I agreed about the video (Such as unskippable logos and ads) but I was surprised he did not mention flipper discs or how they now have that stupid recycle logo cutout on the cases.

I hate those unskippable piracy warnings on the front of DVDs. It makes it feel so cheap and disposable. I always think to myself if I wanted something cheap and disposable I could have downloaded the movie.
You can fast forward these though.

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
I hate that "You wouldn't steal a movie" unskippable crap on some UK DVDs - I've just bought/rented the bloody DVD and I have to sit through a stupid ad accusing me of being a thief.

The irony being that the people that do download movies illegally will never have to sit through that ad.

Uh, the ad isn't accusing YOU of being a thief, it's accusing people that illegally download movies of being thieves.

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
Not that I don't see or don't agree with your point, but I'm sure there's plenty of people who both buy movies as well as download movies. It wouldn't surprise me if this group is in majority. That ad are for those people.

He makes some very good points. Sure, it's mostly nitpicky shit but he makes some valid arguments. The fact that it was humorous also helped.

I didn't know AVGN did other material, well at least non video game material.

Re: DVDs are a bunch of BS!
I finally got around to actually watching the video and man, do I agree with everything he says. As I was watching, I made a mental note to do a post on the virtues of VHS, but damned if he didn't make those same points. As someone who shows film clips in class, I find that cueing up VHS tapes saves a lot of time wasted wading through the logos and FBI warnings on DVDs and getting to the menu and setting the subtitles/audio and finding the chapter and locating the clip.
