Looks like it won't be OOP much longer: A&E is releasing a complete series set

The only way I could get more excited is if this was a Blu-Ray announcement. But this is my all-time favorite TV show & I really wanted a complete box set release. Time to ebay my OOP Season box sets while they still go for $150 a pop. That will more than pay for this set.

It would be awesome if they would include the comic con panel as part of this box set but that is probably asking too much.

This is great news! Except for the part where there'll be like two episodes per disc, and a thousand dollar price point (calculated based upon the average cost of A&E mega-sets).

Excellent news! I'll start saving up for this one.

Why does Farscape always end up at these shitty companies like ADV and A&E?

What was wrong with ADV?
Controversial special features aside, I thought the ADV Starburst editions were excellent.

At least with A&E we'll get a ton of sales down the line.

:bdance: I bet A&E saw this thread and that's what made them decide to release it.

I am sure that we do, and I will ignore any and all evidence to the contrary.

Hey Spielberg! How's about a big screen adaptation of Jack Kirby's Kamandi? Make it happen. DVDTalk has spoken!

Do you mean the holding of special features for later editions or is there another controversy.

I personally won't buy any more ADV DVDs after having been so royally ripped when I purchased the first round of Farscape DVDs.

Didn't the first round come out in the early days of DVD, when studios were still using the VHS model of charging $15 for two episodes?

More like $25, at least for season 1 and then it went to 4 episodes

Yes, but at the same time the X-files, Trek, Buffy and Friends had already set a precedent with season sets on DVD.

TV Shows on DVD

Has listed the press release with box art, retail prices, and extras...

$149.95 for the whole series! Count me in on release day!

Re: Farscape: Why isn't it in print?

Pretty nice looking box, I'm so psyched to have this in a complete series.

Just sold my 4 season box sets for about $80 a piece on ebay last week, at one time they were going for around $120 a piece, but I'm still happy, it more than pays for this box set.

Re: Farscape: Why isn't it in print?

That's a very reasonable price, the cover art doesn't look too shabby, and it looks it has most of the supplemental material for the Starburst editions. (Though the press release is sort of coy on the details.)

Pretty impressive showing from A&E. I'll definitely be picking this up, since I bailed on the Starburst editions because of problems with defective discs.

Re: Farscape: Why isn't it in print?

That's a solid price. I'll cross my fingers that DD will be running their sale again in November.

Re: Farscape: Why isn't it in print?

I'm definitely going to pick this up.

I'm getting really excited for this fall. "Ally McBeal," "Farscape," and "Daria" are all series I have barely seen that I've always wanted to check out. And now I get them all within months of each other.

I must say that I'm impressed with A&E for the fair MSRP and maintaining the expansive bonus features!

It is very nice that they are cutting down drastically on the disc count from the Starburst sets.

Why is that? I saw another post somewhere where someone was glad they cut down on the disc count.

Hopefully compression/encoding methods have improved just as drastically since the Starburst sets if they are squeezing more content onto each disc. I'd be concerned of a quality drop as the disc count goes down... I'd rather have the content spread out over 48 DVD-9 discs and look good then squeezed onto 25 discs and have poor PQ. I can see room to breathe since the Starburst sets devoted a disc to supplements, but... 48 down to 25? Anyone remember the old cheapo EP VHS cassettes? I hope that's not the case, but that is drastic.

If that commentary count is correct, I believe there are 1-2 missing (my first count had only 1 missing, but I saw someone else say in another forum there would be 2 missing, so I must've miscounted).

I have all the Starburst sets, but season 1 and 2 are on DVD-18s... I may just pick up the individual sets for those two seasons. I am not that confident of a Blu-Ray release anytime in the near future (if ever). But, to me, the packaging/artwork doesn't hold a candle to the Starburst editions. There would need to be something exclusive to these sets to get me to re-buy.

I wish I would've tried to get replacement sets for the DVD-18 Starburst sets when I had the chance (not that I've ran into a problem with them, yet, but I haven't tried many).

I'll be picking it up for sure, but I wish they were including The Peacekeeper Wars.

Re: Farscape: Why isn't it in print?

It's pretty standard to put 4 episodes per DVD. That's how almost everything else is released... X-Files, Babylon 5, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Alias, 24, Star Trek, etc. I never really understood why ADV needed to use six DVD-18s/12 DVD-9s per Farscape season when everyone else is able to get the same amount of content onto six DVD-9s.

I didn't see this mentioned in the press release, but I'm assuming that these will be the extended/international cuts of the episodes that ADV released?
