Clive Barker Needs Emails for Nightbreed Director's Cut Dvd

Mark Miller: "One fan set out in search of the truth, armed only with a few phone numbers and the power of a name...
"On one call I was transferred to a production executive. You already know what I told him, so let me tell you what he told me: He Can Access The Lost Nightbreed Footage At Any Time.
"My jaw dropped. Struggling to remember my already limited vocabulary, I asked what had to happen in order for the footage to see the light of day. He explained to me that someone, namely one of the higher ups, had to have a good reason to pull it out of storage. I, having that good reason, nodded and thanked him. He couldn't have been a nicer guy.
"Excited, I pictured myself walking through large dusty warehouses filled from floor to ceiling with ancient reels of arcane footage. I’m sorry to report, that's not what happened.
"Shortly after, one of said higher ups was gracious enough to give me a moment of his time. I was shocked when he told me there wasn't a big enough audience for the film and that the answer to my request must be no.
'Not even worth the cost to upgrade to Blu-ray,' he said.
"Ouch."
Just your name or screen name is fine but please feel free to add your country of residence and / or a sentence or two on why this would be a great idea. We'll collate responses at the bottom of this page and build a picture of support for Nightbreed here!
Spread the word too... The more will definitely be the merrier for all of us...
On behalf of Clive, Mark Miller and ourselves - thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments!

I think Chris is only saying this because the studio rep said that Nightbreed is "not even worth the cost to upgrade to Blu-Ray". I'd love Nightbreed on BD, too, but if the studio somehow decided they couldn't afford both a restored director's cut AND a hi-def transfer, I'd opt to get the director's cut on standard-def dvd and forego a BD.

It's not like Nightbreed would be the kind of big-selling title they'd bother to put BD-exclusive features on anyway, so your stance is pretty asinine and uselessly exclusionary.

I agree with you that Blu-Ray exclusive features is unfair to those that have standard DVD, and I'm a Blu-Ray owner myself. However, the simple answer isn't to push for forgoing Blu-Ray altogether. It's to push for standard-DVD and Blu-Ray releases with the same content, so that completists on either format are happy.

I think the important thing is the film being released uncut finally. I'd take barebones with the proper film without a single complaint.

Re: Clive Barker Needs Emails for Nightbreed Director's Cut Dvd
Two much longer workprints discovered, however only on tape. From the Clive Barker Revelations site:
UPDATE - 10 June 2009 - extended workprint discovered!
We just finished watching a 145 minute version of the film's mid-1989 workprint! That's 44 minutes longer than the theatrical release!! And it's even more significant than that since there are none of the later re-shoots of Decker's murders, so the actual deleted footage is far more than 44 minutes!
Yes, there's (lots) more violence as the Sons of the Free invade Midian, yes there's some deleted stop motion footage, yes, Narcisse gets decapitated, yes Lori stabs herself on a hilltop and Boone bites her... Yes, yes, yes!
Now, this is just a VHS copy so it's not of releasable quality, so... thank you for your continuing messages of support - let's keep working to get a proper DVD release for an extended Nightbreed...

UPDATE - 18 July 2009 - a second (longer) workprint discovered!
A second VHS copy of the film has come to light - this time a 159 minute cut - another 14 minutes! Lori's performance of Johnny Get Angry is amongst the "new" footage, as is the "on the next wind..." closing scene with the breed in the barn. Fingers crossed... this feels like we might just be on a bit of a roll here...

In all honestly I'd be happy if they released a special-edition DVD with the mainfeature being the theatrical cut and having these versions as "bonus features" even with crappy VHS quality.

Heck, Clerks had its workprint put on dvd with its Clerks X release... why not do the same for this?

Re: Clive Barker Needs Emails for Nightbreed Director's Cut Dvd
How are Blu-Ray exclusive features unfair to those that have standard DVD? Most of the exclusives can't technologically be done on standard DVD. Pushing for standard DVDs and Blu-Ray releases to have the same content would be crippling the Blu-Ray format. Luckily, it will never happen.
Agreed.

I agree as well. If they can't ever find suitable quality footage to put out as the main feature, I'd be happy to accept these versions as a bonus. 159 min (!) I want to see this bad.

the new issue of Horror Hound has an article on found footage. I'll post back but there's also an email for Morgan Creek we fans can send our pleas to as well.

145 minute cut being screened at Horrorhound convention next month. I think the posters on this article at the bottom are assuming a bit much. Nowhere does it state that this will be an actual film print. Seeing as how only tapes were found with this cut, they will probably just project that.

I wonder if this means an Uncut DVD/Blu-ray is in the works. I remember reading the Horrorhound article concerning the newly discovered footage but that Morgan Creek was not interested in releasing it since the standard DVD that's out there now did not make a substantial profit.
