question though, I don't really consider a show of hauntings/ghosts really sci-fi'ish - just my opinion though.

sure if you see Ghosts as interdimensional apparitions of ourselves from an alternate plane of existence - hey I'd buy it. Sounds very Quartermane

oh I'm definately not trying to argue about it, I just had a revelation, different perspective on the phenomena - thanks.

With aliens you get the space ships and advanced anal probe technology. |

MP, how were those rifftrax? I have an aversion to non-physical media, so I haven't downloaded anything from them yet. But I pretty much love most of the MST, CT, and FC stuff I've bought so far; so may have to try some RT.

I also have the non-physical media aversion(they make it better by letting you download it as often as you need), so I rip the audio and video from a DVD and then mix the movie audio with the rifftrax and then put them back together to make a DVD. I'll PM you a guide I made. If you were to try just one for this challenge, get The Happening. It doesn't matter how bad you think the film is, but that's the one to get. That's one of the best ones right there. Other ones to get are the Star Wars, starting with Episode 1. They don't have ROTJ yet and Empire has an annoying person in it. The Harry Potter ones are also really great but they aren't sci-fi. |
Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
Thanks MP! Great guide. I'll be honest though, despite my OCD detail in some threads here, I am one of the laziest people you'll ever "meet". If I didn't have thousands of unwatched DVDs and dozens of unwatched MST episodes, I might take the time to do that. But I have enough to keep me busy for at least the next ten years. So for now, I think my Mike riff collection will never be complete. I might download one someday and do a quick and close-enough sync just watching the DVD on my player and listening to the riff on the computer, but no way I have the patience to do something requiring more than 1 or 2 steps.
I don't cook unless the microwave and a can-opener are the only tools either. |
Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
FYI: Twilight Zone marathon started on Sci-Fi channel this morning

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
I need a ruling on something....
a 21 minute run time show counts as 1/4 an entry. a 42 minute run time show counts as 1/2 an entry What about Red Dwarf.... its run time is 30 minutes exactly.... should 3 count as one entry? I mean 3 red dwarfs is a longer time then 4 21 minute shows. |

I think we need to keep it simple and as stated. A 30 minute show counts as 1/4 no matter if the actual content is 20 minutes or 30 minutes. Getting that detailed with exact times/commercials or not/etc is a bit much imo. It opens up several cans of worms.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
Im also curious on the ghost hunters series? since most of the episodes are talking about the tools they use and explaining whats being seen? mainly bc I have multiple sets of these i need a reason to sit thru them.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban should count though, at least, because it features time travel as one of the biggest elements to the movie.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
In light of Billy Mays passing, it was strange to watch the Twilight Zone episode, One For the Angels, earlier which is about a pitchman and death.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
Feldercarb!!!!
Finished the original series of Battlestar Galactica late last night, and wanted to start Galactica 1980 right away. Put it in my Netflix instant view queue weeks ago in preparation, but logged in to find that the first three episodes are not available instantly, but disc only. :hairpull: So I'll have a few days to wait for those discs, taking a sci-fi break most of the day, but may start on a Blade Runner marathon while I wait for more old school Galactica. I don't think this is all nostalgia speaking, but I LOVED watching the 1978 series again. Some great stories and fantastic guest stars. |
Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
I am thinking about starting that one up, I never watched a single episode of any BSG, and want to start the new series but figured I should watch the original series first.

Re: Summer Sci-Fi Challenge 09 - Discussion Thread
So last year I'm pretty sure we ruled on The Dark Knight counting, even though it wasn't listed as sci-fi on imdb, so can I assume Batman Begins would also?
