I think the Final Cut is the way to go. Having said that, I'm thinking about watching the Work Print for the challenge, as I have yet to see that.

A thought...

Since there is so little time, what about a group of movies for every 4 days.

Suggestions:
Matrix Trilogy
Star Wars Movies
Star Trek Movies
Aliens
BTTF

For each 4 days, one of the groups of movies would be tasked and you could talk about any of the movies after those 4 days. It is unlikely that people have not seen all of those movies (if they have seen one), so talking about any of them would be a free-for-all. I know perhaps Star Trek might be an exception... Or we could just strictly enforce spoiler tags. It could spawn discussion without going to the pain of assigning a movie every day.

Personally, the thing I like about the horror movie daily challenge was not having to use spoiler tags.

I'm glad someone mentioned Blade Runner. I've only seen the "Director's Cut" and I've had the Blu-Ray briefcase since it came out. I will probably watch the Final Cut. If I could stand it, I would watch all the versions, but I seem to have a big problem watching the same movie (or versions of the same movie) close in proximity to each other. I just don't want to see the "same" thing again so soon.

That said, though, the best thing to do is watch all the versions close to each other to compare. The only movie I did that with was Dune and the workprint for Dune. Speaking of, for any Dune fans, the workprint is definitely intriguing. I know everyone trashes it, and it absolutely does NOT stand on it's own, but it is definitely worth viewing for any Dune fan.

Believe it or not, I think I've only seen Blade Runner once in my life, and that was just last year or so.

I have the Blu-ray set, and am considering watching all 5 versions over the course of a day or three. Any recommendations on order?

i still have about 50 minutes to wait until i start off with the third disk of witchblade (anime, not the tv series). i stopped watching this weeks ago to save up for this challenge lol.

Can The Powerpuff Girls count? They were created with Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice... but the Professor accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: CHEMICAL X.

I have the complete series set to watch and haven't even started it. If It can count during this that would be excellent news for me. I think it should count but the sites only listed it as Fantasy (but I think Sci-Fi would apply as well).

I haven't seen Blade Runner since it was in the theaters!!! I don't remember a whole lot about it other than I enjoyed it. I will eventually watch all five versions, but I prefer to spread them out a little.

I'd vote that Powerpuff Girls should count. Actually watched the movie (my first real exposure to them) just the other day, and at least that should be sci-fi, imo.

What does IMDB or allmovies say? If its listed as sci-fi there then it should count. If not then it shouldn't count right?
Arent those the rules? If people are gonna just count whatever they want what is the point of this challenge?

Double reading fail Chris. He already mentioned that they are not listed as sci-fi at those sites. And the OP says in the first part of the first post that things are up for discussion/interpretation.

I think it counts since there's sci-fi type devices and plots that gets used.

Like caligula was saying before last year, there's an overlap between fantasy and sci-fi. Some fantasy labeled stuff clearly has sci-fi elements but then there's some, like Hercules movies, where there's no sci-fi. That's why I added the other part about asking when something isn't labeled sci-fi.

As an example, I Am Legend is labeled as sci-fi yet Powerpuff Girls is fantasy. I've seen both and Powerpuff Girls seems to use sci-fi a lot even thought it's fantasy, and that's probably because they're super heroes.

Hopefully that explained something. It's just a screwed up genre but I don't want to add fantasy to the challenge because that brings in stuff like Steve Reeves' films, which I don't want included.

As for Blade Runner, I tried watching it on TV a few times as a kid and thought it was the most boring movie ever. The only advice for ordering I can give is to save the Theatrical version for last, since you won't want to watch it again. Also, have something between the Final Cut and the Director's Cut because they're pretty close to being the same.

I was thinking something similar. How about allowing discussion of the films during their group of days, which would also encourage people to watch them?

The only movie that requires spoiler tags is the newest Star Trek.

July 1st - 5th: Matrix Trilogy
6th - 12th: Star Wars Movies
13th - 19th: Star Trek Movies
20th - 26th : Aliens
27th - 31st: Back To The Future

I purposefully don't include the number next to the titles - as I did with last year's challenge the count on the bottom of the list reflects how I number my list - is that a problem?

SOMEbody's listing 'True Blood' -uh,umm it's vampires, but unlike say like 'Lifeforce' or 'Planet of the Vampires' I really don't see how this is considered as sci-fi.

Since it's not listed as SF at either IMDB or All Movies, according to the rules, it probably shouldn't count.

On the other hand, it's just for fun anyway so it doesn't much matter.

how do yous guys quickly find and pull up your listing post in the listing thread to edit? im lazy and need to spend my time watching sci-fi, rather than looking for my post somewhere in the middle of page two :D

I always bookmark mine, makes it so much easier. Just click on the post number in the upper right corner of your list. (The one in this post is #96, for example) It'll bring up your list as a single post, which you can then bookmark.

^ for me it's easy just to go into my 'user CP' - hit the link # for your post to appear as a single listing, copy the url and then ad to your signature, so that it always appears in all your postings.essentially what RobCA stated.

looks fine. just remember half hour shows count as 1/4

that's why I don't number mine, if I say watch one episode a day - I'd list it, but I wont number it till I have a full number, that will make more sense as the challenge progress' into the month.

Besides what others said, you just search for "hindolio" in the list page in whatever web browser you use and it should be the 2nd hit. The first one is the "Welcome, (user name)" towards the top right of the thread.

Otherwise, I keep my computer on 24/7 and restart maybe once a month or so, so I will undoubtedly have Firefox open with the list thread page on my post this whole month. No need to ever go "find" it again :
