Movie was so so. Good Netflix rental (i.e. to be watch once), not worth taking up shelf space.

Watched it last night (1st time) and really enjoyed it. I thought Cruise did a very good job, and the sets and backdrops looked authentic. I'm sure I will re-watch it at some point too. Recommended! Only disappointment (my fault) was that I bought the single disc version at Costco which has NADA in terms of extras (no trailer even). I may end up returning and ordering the 2-disc.

Here's a link to a picture of the real Stauffenberg taken on 7/15/44, just 5 days before the actual attack, with Hitler. The caption reads: "Wolf's Lair", 15 July 1944 - For the third time within a few days, the young Count Stauffenberg to talk to Hitler, stands upright on arrival. For the third time he has explosives in his briefcase. He does not ignite the bomb.

Also, it's been reported that one of the things that attracted Cruise to the project was his likeness to the film's subject. See for yourself.

[QUOTE=Jack Straw;9463513]I may end up returning and ordering the 2-disc.

I think that would be a good idea if you go through with it.
I enjoyed the extras, although there are only two of them in the two-disc set.
The Valkyrie documentary was intresting and would be worth the switch I think. I was going to get the 1- disc at first because it was a bit cheaper, but i'm glad I paid a little bit extra just for the documentary.

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

I need someone to help me out.

Does the 1-Disc DVD feature the following:
Audio commentary by actor Tom Cruise, director Bryan Singer and co-writer Christopher McQuarrie
Audio commentary by co-writers Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander Extras:
"The Valkyrie Legacy" documentary (42min)
"The Journey To Valkyrie" featurette (16min)

According to bot DVDTimes & DVDActive it doesnŽt, but DVDcompare says it does.

Is there two different pressing of Disc-1...?

IŽm confused.

is probably disc 1 of the 2 disc version, not disc 1 of the 1 disc version.

Dane, what BuddhaWake wrote is correct. If you buy the 2-disc DVD, then disc 1 has the extras, with disc 2 being the digital copy. If you buy the 1-disc DVD release then you get no extras. For stuff like this, having a look at the item listing at DVDEmpire comes in very handy. If you take a look at their listing for both the 1-disc and 2-disc DVD releases it will reflect what BuddhaWake mentioned.

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

Thanks.

So, there is two different pressing of the 1st disc.

1-Disc version: No extras

2-Disc version: Extras on disc 1 , and Digital Copy on disc 2.

Well, that is just lame. Anyhow, thanks again.

Correct on both counts Dane, "yes" there are two different pressings, and "yes" it is most definitely lame. Unfortunately, this sort of thing is now more the rule than the exception in the U.S. when you look at films released as both 1- and 2-disc (with digital copy) DVD sets...disc 1 is often not the same...barebones in the 1-disc release, but with added extras on disc 1 in the 2-disc release.

Speaking on behalf of both myself and BuddhaWake...glad to be of service to a fellow brother from the International forum...just let us know anytime you need help...like maybe with "hot" Asian cinema recommendations and such...or maybe not.

Re: Valkyrie -- 5/19/09

it is in fact lame. it makes no sense to make 3 discs when the 1 disc with extras can just be put by itself in a case. is all a scam. but yeah, try to look for the 2 disc. this btw, is mostly true off all new releases that are 1 or 2 disc/w digital copy.

LOL at the asian movie recommendation.

Thanks, mate. I got your hint.

As long as we all contribute one way or another to help each other out, eh? IŽll do the best I can to assist.

I think IŽll head back to my favorite forum namely The International Forum
