Most people seem to just be listing their OOP DVDs when the topic is valuable OOP DVDs.

I was about to say this specifically regarding that title until I checked on Amazon and saw it going for around $38.

On the other hand the Spider-Man 3 Target exclusive is selling for less than when it came out and the Spider-Man 67 cartoons is selling for about the price it did when it came out.

Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is finally not worth anything now since the 20th anniversary edition came out last August.

I am pissed off the Larry Cohen box set went away since it was one of those things I was always putting off getting and now it's over $100 on amazon.

For me and just doing a quick search at amazon:
That silly Ewok dvd
MST3K vol 9 - cheapest at amazon is $222.22
MST3K vol 10
The Guinea Pig Box Set
The Coffin Joe Trilogy

But why would anyone buy the old version for a lot when they could get the new version, now in widescreen, for a decent price?

Looking at ebay, the old one isn't even selling for over $10 anymore.

True. I didn't even consider buying the old version. What would be the point?

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

I know there's a new release but that doesn't change fact it's rare & worth $....
The ebay comparison is pretty much useless, you can find anything cheap there.
I've won rare stuff for next to nothing depending on the date & time....

On amazon it's $32.84 to $60.37....
on half it's $33.60 to $51.44....

I guess it depends if you are a hardcore collector or whatever....
I have no interest in selling mine & re-release doesn't add much for a double dip.
I'm assuming they didn't press many of the original because it went OPP quick....
Regardless the thread is for valuable OOP DVD & Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is one....

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

I just sold the "House of the Spirits" to an online used DVD site for $30. It was nothing special, just an early 1999-2000 pressing that happens to be OOP. I'll pick it up again for my wife at some later date when it comes back out, but for now it was major trade bait.

Going by what people are actually paying for an item is more valuable in finding the value of something than what something is listed for and may or may not be selling at that price. Items are only worth what they sell for, not what a seller would like to sell it for.

As an example, I have a copy of Nail Gun Massacre signed by the director. It's also one of the limited editions 60 something out of 250 or so. No copies for sale on ebay or amazon. By your logic, I could put my copy up on amazon with a listing of $1,000,000. For the sake of gumby, lets say a couple copies have sold on ebay for $5 each, does that really mean it's worth one million dollars because what it's actually selling for doesn't matter?

If you can't see that point of view, then I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

edit:
I'm assuming they didn't press many of the original because it went OPP quick....
Unless I'm mistaken, it didn't go OOP that quick. I remember when this and a large collection of other Retromedia titles were being sold super cheap so they could get rid off all their stock. Prices were from under $1 to around $3-4 which most being on the cheaper side.

That movie, along with a bunch of other ones had cards you could send in for free stuff. I think it was the more cards you did the better stuff you got. I sent in around 20 or so and never heard back so I sent an email to find out what was up. Fred Olen Ray responded saying that promotion had ended more than a year earlier but he'd send me something anyway. He ended up sending me an autographed animation cell, along with the drawing it was based from, from the Evil Toons movie.

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

Mister Peepers....
What happened to your little short reply, What's up with the big re-edit???? Seriously you are not proving anything to me. I dunno why this is bothering you so much. This isn't some DVD that went OOP last week, it's been like that way for awhile. I didn't buy it autographed & the whole point of bringing that up is I'm very happy with it & have no desire to sell it or buy the re-release. I'm not trying to brag or promote it I have no reason to lie. Again, I will repeat myself for the last time this thread is for DVDs that are OUT OF PRINT & VALUABLE the original Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers release fits that with no problem so I posted it with my other stuff. Btw, It was never that "cheap" compared to the other Retro stuff. Unlike most of their stuff it did go OOP pretty quick. I already proved it was rare & obviously all those sellers agree with me with the cheapest price being $32.84 even with the re-release available. I think your wrong & you think I'm wrong stick to your "agree to disagree" comment because I'm done talking about this....

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

This is funny. I have the autographed Nail Gun Massacre also. #63/500. I would actually speak with the director (Terry Lofton) via IM back when the DVD was released. Nice guy.

Good in a cheesy horror way.

I've been meaning to pick up the re-release. It has like one special feature that's not on the original release.

Concerning the debate on what qualifies as valuable. For me, if you can get more than original full retail for a used copy it's valuable.

Check Amazon or eBay closed listings. See what people are paying for DVDs. That's the practical way to determine the value of anything-- the marketplace.

The three titles in that set are still in print individually and you can easily get them super-cheap. I don't think anyone really needs to spend $100+ just for the cheap outer cardboard sleeve.

Re: Anyone Care to List Their Valuable OOP Dvds?

I have a few valuable ones that I've kept, though I've sold most of them:

Nekromantik
Rebecca & Notorious CC
Ilsa Box Set
1984
Panther
47 Ronin (Mizoguchi)

Those are probably the biggies, there are a couple other OOP that are worth in the $30's

Straw Dogs Criterion and the OOP Hitchcock Criterions and MST3K Vols. 9-10 for me.

I wish I hadn't sold my Spider-Man 67 set, but mostly because a friend had his stolen and I want to be able to replace it.

I don't think there's such a thing as a "valuable" DVD.

If you can sell it for upwards of $1000, I'd say that's pretty valuable.

Remember how much those Criterion "Salo"s were going for?
