These releases make up the "Drive In Discs" collections (later a boxed set), and I have to give them credit for trying something different to liven up the whole "drive-in experience". On the first volume, SCREAMING SKULL/GIANT LEECHES, one of the audio options pipes the film soundtrack through just the left front speaker I believe (as you'd hear it in a real drive-in), and fills the other speakers with various "drive-in" sounds such as crickets, wind, honking horns, cars driving to their parking spots, subtle voices in the vehicles around you, feet walking across the gravel behind you on their way to the concession stand and more. I believe there's a few moments of dialogue early on between the occupants of "your car" but nothing much through the rest of the movie. HOWEVER, the completely blew it on the next two releases by having "your car" filled with about three or four young-ish sounding people "riffing" through the entire movie so poorly that it's virtually unlistenable. Shame, really.

I know alot of the SWV titles didn't have a Play All option but the ones I listed are ones I found on DVDEmpire with the Drive-In Experience option listed in the Special Features , here is a link to one of them.

Re: Exploitation film discussion

I've recently become a Jean Rollin fan (Through rentals) the problem is that some of his current R1 titles (Night/Hunted,Living Dead Girl) are OOP. Any word on them being re-released?

Re: Exploitation film discussion

I purchased drive-in cult classics Vol. 2 & 3 at Best Buy a couple weeks ago. Last week I stumbled across a couple of vol. 1's. Where did you find 4? At best buy?

Go to Xploited Cinema, they have 7 of his films in 2 and 3 disc special editions. They may not be R1 I'm not sure.

Re: Exploitation film discussion

Anybody know what the differences are between the version of "Malabimba The Malicious Whore" that Severin Films is releasing this week and the OOP version that they released in '07? The cover border is now red instead of black and says "Unrated Version" instead of "X Rated Version", but the running time and extras seem the same.

Did they do this just to lose the "X Rated" stigma?

Re: Exploitation film discussion

^ from what I hear it is "slightly edited"...

They probably took out the unnecessary X-rated scenes and added back in the scenes that probably shouldn't been taken out in the first place. From what's being said, the film plays better without them.

Re: Exploitation film discussion

I know of at least two other movies they put out which had x and non-x versions released at the same time. As far as I know, this would be the first time they released them at different times, and let one fall out of print.

Re: Exploitation film discussion

the other one went out of print because the distributors got complains about "pornography" and when they looked a lot of the stuff up they ceased to distribute. It happened to a couple of labels too. they commented on their blog when it happened. if i find the article I'll post it here.

^ I'm pretty sure that's what they're doing with The Sinful Dwarf, releasing the 2 cuts. X-rated and Unrated.

Giles, as far as I know, Severin still don't have a distributor for the hardcore cut. I know Marc Morris said that TLA would be selling this version, but that's the regular cut they have up there.

I've seen this at both the Culver City and the West LA BB recently, if any locals want to pick it up.

Re: Exploitation film discussion

Too many RE-releases! Let's get some of the CANCELLED stuff out that BCI/Eclipse had on the plate, like where's that wonderful promised SE of KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS? Hopefully Code Red will focus on other obscure, unreleased titles in the future...

Re: Exploitation film discussion

So, according to DVDDrive-in, Shock-O-Rama Cinema will be releasing "WOMEN IN PRISON TRIPLE FEATURE" (THE HOT BOX/ESCAPE FROM HELL/WOMEN IN CELL BLOCK 7) on 6/30.

Is this the same "Escape From Hell" previously put out by Troma? Does anybody know anything about this release?

If anyone in the Peninsula/Silicon Valley part of the SF Bay Area is looking for the Exploitation Cinema Collection, the Best Buy in E. Palo Alto has two copies as of yesterday.

So my question to the experts is, what are the must have sets that I need now? I see people mentioning Drive In Cult, but looks like I would have a lot of crossover. Or are those sets better than the ones I have now?

And to show off my real guilty pleasure, I'm working on a full set of Xenon's Wu Tang Collection:

Re: Exploitation film discussion

It depends on what you're into. I tend more towards the teen comedies than anything else. Given that, I found the Too Cool for School collection to be essential.

Re: Exploitation film discussion

I'd first look at the larger, as in 50 movies or more, movie packs from Mill Creek as they contain movies from the smaller sets. Then start looking at other distributors, and try to find larger sets of films that you don't already own.

By staying with smaller sets of movies, it's really easy to run into overlapping.

I'd also recommend looking for the 10 movie sets that Brentwood was putting out in the early half of this decade. They have some stuff that hasn't shown up in more recent collections. Here's one of them http://www.amazon.com/Deadtime-Stori...2233536&sr=8-7

If you need help with the names of some of the other ones like this, let me know. I picked up pretty much all of the good ones. After awhile they changed to sets that had newer, straight to video type junk instead of the "classics".
