In Best Buy today I noticed another new BCI 20-pack that doesn't seem to be getting any love anywhere on line. This one combines a 10-pack of what I assume is their remaining Rarescope single- and double-discers (ten previous ones were released in the "Flicks With Kicks" collection) with another 10-pack of their Kung Fu Theatre titles. I can't imagine any of these being as well-preserved as the Crown library in the Exploitation set, but still a great deal at $20.

How crazy!! I've never even heard of the Rarescope line. It looks like there was supposed to be another "Flicks With Kicks" (volumn 2) release, but maybe it never cam out. I may need to check this one out.

Speaking of explotation collections, I have this one on pre-order:

http://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Vixens-C...2269091&sr=1-2

It's not nearly as good a deal and comes in crap packaging and I've never seen a single one of the 10 titles, but I'm hoping for good things. It comes out Tuesday.

Yeah, that price should probably be lower, especially for what look like DV pinky movies that may or may not have serious replay value (I find a lot of Pinky stuff to indistinguishable from one another in terms of production value and ingenuity, despite the endless supply of cute girls). I've noticed two previous box sets of this series here in Canada (Vol. 1-5 and Vol. 6-10). Not sure if those were available in the U.S. as well.

Yeah, the box sets were available, although I never noticed the series until the 10-disc collection came out. It looks like 1-5 and 6-10 collected them in their original packaging, although 1-10 does not. I almost regret paying as much as I did, but I used some left over store credit. Wish I got the original packaging (or slim cases) at least.

I saw this once in the Sci-Fi section and haven't been able to find it since! Best Buy is horrible about keeping genre titles in stock. They just started carrying Poultrygeist last week, and it was released in October.

I think this set has more to do with the distributors than it does with Best Buy.

From what I was told by another member on these forums, the set was only sold during the X-Mas Season of 2008. I wouldn't be surprised if the set is OOP now with Navarre shutting down BCI and the set being a Best Buy Exclusive.

The Best Buy I visited on the weekend--in Michigan--had five of the Exploitation sets on the shelf. It may be OOP, but it's probably still available at other locations for a while, in case anyone's looking.

Good to know.

I am in search for another set in my area since the first one I bought had shattered spindles.

I'm curious if the menus on the discs in this set still utilize the "Welcome To The Grindhouse" interface? I do recall that series being canned and replaced with the more generic "Exploitation Cinema" moniker because of purported threats from the Weinsteins in the wake of their thundering success with GRINDHOUSE and all of its hugely profitable sequels and spinoffs and ancillary products. Oh, wait a minute . . . Nonetheless, ff this Best Buy set is indeed OOP (or going OOP), then this might be the last opportunity to get these titles with the "grindhouse" menus. Anybody checked it out?

Grabbed a copy today while I was at Best Buy. I did the shake test and it passed.

When I opened both up at home, I had floaters in each but, due to the packaging, they remained snug. No scratches. Whew....!

I picked up a copy of this yesterday. I may keep it, I may not. I just wanted to have the option of keeping it because it was the last copy. Hopefully I'll find some decent reviews which will help me to decide one way or the other.

I never bought any of the previous "Welcome to the Grindhouse" releases, so not positive what you mean. I can say that when I put a disc in, I can either select a particular movie or I can make a selection called "The Grindhouse Experience" that will play some coming attractions before the movie starts. Is that what you're thinking of?

Oh, the artwork on each disc says "Welcome to the Grindhouse"

Yeah, those are the original releases. Looks like BCI or Best Buy is just blowing them out under the newer Exploitation Cinema. Pretty sure they had to discontinue the Grindhouse titles because of the Weinsteins. Good to know they kept the menus. There's some seriously entertaining trailers on some of those discs.

re: Exploitation film discussion

I'm not sure if I ever saw any of the original Grindhouse releases re-released as Exploitation ones. Did that happen, or did they just change the series name titles that came out after that point.

And, if they did change the series for the original releases, did they issue new UPCs?

Some of the Grindhouse titles, though not all of them, can be found in the Drive In Cult Classic 8 Movie sets, but few if any have turned up in the Exploitation Cinema double features (so far that series has had a decent amount of "new" titles. Under the Exploitation Cinema umbrella, the menu designs changed (somewhat for the worse) but trailers were still included. Don't know about UPCs.

In the 8 packs (at least Vol. 2 and 3), you mostly get static menus with no extras outside of an occasional trailer for the film that's on the disc (which is rare).

You may want to list the precursor to the Welcome To The Grindhouse series, Starlite Drive-In Theater in that list, it includes alot of stuff in the Drive-In classics

Mmmmmm. My all-time favorite exploitation set just arrived from Amazon.UK - the 12 disc/18 title Russ Meyer Collection!! Yep, finally bit the bullet. I waited as long as I did out of fears that discs would come lose and get scratched, but after some cheaper experiences with Amazon.UK which went really well, I finally took the plunge. And no loose or scratched discs!

Nice!

I bought that a couple months ago but I haven't opened it. Mostly because I haven't had the time to actually watch movies in general lately

Probably not the best fit to ask this here but I didn't want to create a thread just for this question.

Any chance anyone has ordered the School Dazed 8 Movie Collection and can confirm whether or not it is supposed to come with the typical white security sticker on the top or do they all look like cheap reshrinkwrapped jobs without any security stickers?

I opened mine last night, which is one of the first times in ages that I've opened something the day I got it, and watched half of "Faster Pussycat" before hitting the sack. This set is so cool! The packaging/artwork is so cool! I haven't seen half of these movies before and the half I did see, I rented on VHS befre DVD ever existed!

I ordered this one ages ago and at that time, it arrived with the white security stickers. These early 8-movie Crown International/BCI collections were packaged in single-width DVD cases, with one disc mounted on either side of the inside of the case. There's no tray, so the discs in these sets (Maximum Action, After Dark Thrillers, Drive In Cult Vol. 1) are prone to popping loose during shipping, leading to serious scratching. This happened with all four sets when I ordered them online.

Also, the two best films in the School Dazed collection are compromised: I noted this in a review at Amazon, but just in case anyone cares, POM POM GIRLS is a taken from a chewed-up print, is severely cut (most of the nudity is gone), and the letterboxing actually hides some of the image which can be seen on the nearly pristine, fullscreen version in the Starlite Drive-in 2 Pack and the Drive-In Cult Classics Vol. 3 set. THE VAN is likewise taken from a poor quality print in the School Dazed set, though it is uncut. The superior version is in the Starlight double feature. I don't think this title has been reissued yet in any of the more recent collections, and from the sounds of things at BCI, it probably won't be again.

No security sticker for me, and does appear closer to a quick reshrinkwrap than factory sealed, but both discs arrived secure.

I noted this in a review at Amazon,
So that was you eh? Thank you for the info here and in that review as I referred to it before ordering (as I'm really barely even familiar with a couple of the titles by name only).

Though the alterations on two of the films (The Pom Pom Girls and My Chauffeur) and inferior prints used on three of them (MAR transfer for My Chauffer also) is always disappointing, given the price, my lack of familiarity of the titles and the OOP status on the two superior versions of those two films.. lead to a random impulse order anyway.

I got to get that. I have Faster Pussycat poster (a really HQ reprint) hanging in my office...one of my favorite flicks of all time.

What films are in this set? How is the quality?
