Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=51899
Sounds like a piece of shit DVD release that has me absolutely disgusted. Not only is this the worst Bond movie ever it appears to have the worst 2-disk edition of any 007 movie as well. I cant believe this is what we get for bonus content: Single-Disc DVD Special Features: "Another Way to Die" Music Video Theatrical Trailers Two-Disc Special Edition DVD Special Features: Includes all of the above single-disc content plus additional bonus features: "Bond on Location" 24-minute special feature Start of Shooting On Location Olga Kurylenko and the Boat Chase Director Marc Forster The Music Crew Files |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Unless there's a store-exclusive steelbook or bonus disc, I'm not picking this up. I'll wait for the 3-disc which'll probably come out a month before the next movie.
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Dam that's thin like a razor for bonus features, what gives?

As far as the "worst 2-Disc edition of any 007 movie yet", the Casino Royale 2-Disc was pretty weak. I'll more than likely wait for the 3-Disc standard/2-Disc Blu-Ray release that will be released for the next Bond film... |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Well, at least that's more features than the original Casino Royale disc.
Since Fox is doing it, here's to hoping for a DTS track. |

I think many of us should start doing this after THE DARK NIGHT dvd that just came out. Studios are putting out 2 dvds one plain and the other 2-disc but then when the next movie of the series comes out they offer a 3-disc set plus movie ticket. So wait everybody!:hippie: |

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I loved QoS (saw it three times in the theater), so I'll most likely pick up this (no doubt first) release on the cheap and then upgrade down the road if the special features are worthwhile.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Pure rental gold until a re-release.

Die Another Day is half of a really great Bond movie, and half of a really shitty one. And Octopussy is sort of second-tier Bond, but I dig it. Still, I agree that QoS is FAR from the Worst Bond Ever. I'd give that to "A View To A Kill", easily. |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I'll definitely pick it up if it goes SteelBook. If not I'll have to reconsider.
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I'll get the two disc DVD to go with the DVD version of Royale, but will wait for the collectors edition before considering getting it on Blu.
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I will probably get this, then upgrade in two years when the third Craig-Bond film hits.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
For once, the two-disc art is better than the one-disc.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
It is still three months before release, so we have a ways to go before those specs are finalized. I will withhold judgement until we actually see the full specs.
As far as Quantum being the worst Bond movie ever, you obviously havent seen all the Bond movies, OP. |

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
The Living Daylights is a solid entry in the series, and the screenwriters did an excellent job spinning an interesting story out of Fleming's short story (which comprises, basically, the first five minutes of the film after the main titles). Timothy Dalton was a great, true-to-Fleming James Bond and I'm greatly entertained that audiences today rave about Daniel Craig doing what they didn't like when Dalton did it 20 years earlier.
Having gotten that off my chest, count me among the "The 2-disc sucks and I resent knowing I'll be milked for a 3-disc set down the road that will have everything this release should have had, but I'll buy it anyway and I know it" crowd. Also, I loved the film and am greatly annoyed that, yet again, the initial DVD release of a Sony produced Bond film lacks a director's commentary. |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
How does that compare to the R2 release ?
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Quantum of Solace > The Living Daylights
I agree,The Living Daylights was average at best.... |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
A View to a Kill is the worst Bond movie ever. End of argument.
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Ill buy the 2 disc then down the road pick up the rerelease
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I enjoyed QoS quite a bit, and I rarely ever feel its worth the extra money for so-called extra features that I might watch one time (yeah, there's a few exceptions but for the majority of dvds I own I'm really interested in just the film itself), so I'll get the single disc version like I usually do.
Plus, as a 007 nut, a Bond film would have to be mind-numblingly bad for me not to pick it up to complete my collection. Even the weakest entries in the series for me (LTK, AVTAK, TWINE) are far from being so bad that I wouldn't own them and never watch them. I just watch them much less frequently than I do the ones that I consider to be my favorites (GF, YOLT, DAF, TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, GE, DAD). |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I really enjoyed QoS, and feel that it got unfair negative reviews from a lot of people. Maybe it was the fact that expectations were so high from Casino Royale? There were only a few scenes in it that had CGI that should have been improved upon. I thought the story was pretty decent, acting was good, and it still had the grittiness of the CR.
I still think it's leaps and bounds above The World is Not Enough and Tomorrow Never Dies. I was never a fan of Moore's movies, so i think it jumps ahead of those as well. In any case, i won't be picking this up new. I rarely pick up DVDs new anymore. I guess WM and Big Lots have spoiled me. I'll probably pick this up when the library unloads numerous copies for $3, along with the Dark Knight. |

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
hmmm, movie was OKAY, but im kind of pushing it, lol
yea, the 2 disc special better not be that much |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
they're not gonna get me this time - I will hold off until the 3 disc set comes out. I can wait.
Picked up all four of the Bond ultimate editions last year at circuit city on black friday for, if I remember right, $20.00 each. Still have not finished them all yet, so I have enough to keep me busy until then. |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
It's not the worst bond film, but it's one of them. I don't understand how anyone can honestly defend it. It's about some guy who screams like a girl trying to control the water supply of Bolivia. I mean, come on.
Die Another Day however, is certainly the worst Bond film. When I first saw the awful CGI sequences and XXX-esque invisible car in theatres, I swear I was almost physically ill. Add to that Madonna and Halle Berry, and I wish I had access to the memory wiping device from Eternal Sunshine. I still firmly believe that bond died with Desmond Llewellyn. Daniel Craig is great but the new films are Bourne incarnate. The Living Daylights was great, as was Dalton. |

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Is there any blu ray specs or cover art? The photos posted above seem to be taken down and the link failed.
I'll cast my vote for OHMSS as the worst bond ever .. so boring, followed by TWINE. I'll agree with another poster that DAD was 1/2 great bond, 1/2 barrel of crap. The movie was very good for me up until the when halle berry appeared. Overall QoS was a decent flick and I enjoyed the whole large range conspiracy that was introduced (or furthered), as well as the oil covered woman who was a homage to Jill Masterson's death in Goldfinger. However it seemed that homage was the only reason to have written that part into QoS. |

I love both the covers, but this DVD is so damn barren... Ugh. Will probably wait for a double dip on this.

May I interject here? Walken was also the villain in Country Bears and Balls of Fury. 'Nuff said.
I'll give you BAD, just like AVTAK is, but not the absolute worst....Walken's role should automatically give any film at least 1 star.... |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I will pick this up on Blu for sure. Is it getting a Steelbook?
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
The BR/2disc cover is strange. Craig's left hand is WAY too big, and they took a photo that they desaturated for the poster, than recolored (badly) it for the cover. I liked the picture better as the poster, now it looks like one of Ted Turners late 80's colorizing RKO vault raids.
|
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
His hand doesn't look that big to me. And why would they recolor a picture when I'm sure they have the full color picture at their disposal?
