is doing the DVD/BR release. Maybe they only got the "finished" images and didn't bother to ask for anything else. It's not that big of a deal, but the coloring is off to me. |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I quite liked QoS, but some scene where pretty bad. The chase at the beginning had too many close-ups of the cars, the plot was pretty weak (no bond villian should say the word "utilites") and they only killed like one guy. Not that ruthless.
BUT. I enjoyed little bits here and there. The opera scene was very great (and pretty much silent), liked the rooftop chase (and the fall), the fight at the end (and the exploding glass wall) and I liked the way they introduced every new location with a sentence in the style of the country. I will always think Dalton is the best Bond. To me you have to look at the actor and think "would he kill someone?" I only get that with Dalton. I'll get the is BD but here in the UK they seem to go on a deal pretty quickly. The new Casino Royale was on a "2 for £25" deal about a month after it came out. I'll get it then. |

Why would you put OCTOPUSSY in that pile?
The movie had great stunts and Moore was very good.

The Living Daylights is, IMHO, one of the very BEST Bonds. Great plot, great acting, cool gadgets, it's only hampered by Joe Lynn Baker's sorta buffoonish villain.
Die Another Day is half of a really great Bond movie, and half of a really shitty one. And Octopussy is sort of second-tier Bond, but I dig it. Still, I agree that QoS is FAR from the Worst Bond Ever. I'd give that to "A View To A Kill", easily.

So does anyone have a scan of the Target edition?

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
I bought the movie last night, and have watched a bit more than half of it so far. Honestly, I was bored. More M, more Felix and less choppy camera work would have been fantastic. It's a personal preference, but I don't like the choppy camera work that makes me struggle and rewind to determine what exactly happened. There is a scene involving planes that made no sense to me at all, for example (not a spoiler, I hope).
This felt like a Bourne-knock off and not a Bond movie at all, or perhaps a montage of fights that could have been spread over a few Bond films. If there was an hour of non-action mixed in throughout this short movie, perhaps that also would have been a fix. The store I bought in only charged a $2 premium for the two-disc version, so they clearly agreed on its value. I bought the premium just in case I somehow wanted it later, but had the difference been even $5 I would have bought the one-disc release. Ah well. I agree, by the way, that Die Another Day was the worst Bond movie ever. Quantum is in the bottom five, but it can't compete with Die Another Day. |

Is it worth it? if you plan on getting QOS now and not waiting for a possible 3-disc set, I would take this Target exclusive over the walmart calendar, which will be of no use by the end of the year anyway. If there is a future 3-disc, you can keep the book, sell the 2 disc and get the upgrade. Just remember, the print is very small, but I'm sure your eyesight is better than mine. Maybe I'll go to the Dollar Tree and pick up some cheap reading-magnifying glasses... |
Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
is the one disc version the same dvd as the movie disc of the special edition?

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
Commanderbond.net recently posted that an Australian website, EzyDVD, has a listing for a 2-disc DVD release of Quantum of Solace scheduled for 28 July 2010.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
This is why I never bought the original release.

Re: Quantum of Solace : 3/24/09
The 'bits has the same info, I've never seen this. We saw Casino Royale in the theaters and enjoyed it, but we just never got around to watching QoS. I picked up the CR 3 discer for a good price, so I'll probably grab this as a companion piece.

I'll await further details on the specs for this QoS release to see if it's worth a buy. |
