There were some ok matches throughout the years it ran, but whether you like them will really be something you'll have to decide. It does look like this set is going to have pretty much anything really significant that ever happened on SNME, like the Hebner screwjob in the Hogan/Andre match at the first Main Event Special, and the big Macho Man/Hogan blowup that led to their showdown at Wrestlemania V. There's also a Savage/Bret Hart match on there from '87 that was good.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

curious to see how good the starrcade dvd does
the kane dvd is still in the top 5 this week for top dvds on the sports list, shows you most fans will buy anything the wwe puts out, so if this starrcade dvd doesnt do better than that it just proves most fans who buy wwe dvds are new school fans or they lack good taste
you cant tell me the kane dvd is better than the starrcade dvd
and only a small portion on fans have 24/7 so no excuse there

message to all fans-BUY THE STARRCADE DVD THIS TUESDAY MAKE IT SELL AWESOME SO MAYBE WE CAN GET WARGAMES,HAVOC,WW3,ETC STUFF ON DVD

still pumped that finally a wcw dvd is coming out, if you would of said that a wcw dvd along with 6 macho man matches on SNME were coming out few months ago i would laugh

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

I hope the Starrcade DVD does well, as I too would love for them to use the good sales as a springboard to open up their vault of WCW stuff more. I am skeptical, though. I think a lot of the WWE's key demo would consider most of the material on it old, slow, boring, or altogether unfamiliar, where as with the Kane set, they are at least familiar with the character. I also think a fair amount of the older fans who are a good target market for this might pass due to most of the material already being available on other releases they probably own. I hope I am wrong.

I pre ordered my Starrcade DVD from WWE, and this is what is got.

Unfortunately we are unable to ship your complete order due to the
UNFORESEEN DEMAND for the item(s) listed below.

Hopefully thats a good sign.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

I really hope that this Starrcade DVD will pave the way for full WCW events to be released. The Rise And Fall Of ECW as well as the first two One Night Stands did great numbers but all we got after that were compilations. In the case of WCW and the original ECW there isn't the problem of their respective video libraries expanding. And as far as a demand for this stuff the classic replays on WWE 24/7 is a hit. Bring on anthology sets. Please.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

I know it's not WCW related, but, allegedly, there is an ad in the newest issue of WWE's mag for the not yet announced Survivor Series anthology. I'll be all over that.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

I recently got my hands on the original copies of RR 2000, 2001 & 2002 on DVD. Anybody have a list of edits for these 3 events?

sorry...lol

Seeing as how WWE likes to release in 4 volumes (5 discs each) not sure how they will do it, since this year will be the 23rd so since its not mentioned in the ad it will not released til probably next year or worst case til after the 25th annual (doubt that since Blu-ray will likely be the standard media).

They had a perfect chance to release the boxset in 2007 since 2006 was the 20th.

No way in hell is that happening...there's no convenience factor that's going to convince people to switch over.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

WWE DVD distributer Genius Products is in serious financial peril after being de-listed for the over the counter board after the company failed to release a third quarter fiscal report. Genius Products lost $11.7 million in the second quarter. This affects WWE as they had plans to start regularly releasing Blu-ray discs late last year, but with the financial problems
Genius had, they weren't able to make the shift. While Blu-ray releases are still considered a niche market, WWE officials weren't happy with UFC beating them to the marketplace with them.

This sucks, I hope they find a new distributor.

I don't think Vince will have any problem finding another distributor.
I'm sure there are tons of companies that would jump all over the rights to WWE dvd's.

They can also go back and distribute the videos themselves like they did back in the day with the Coliseum Video department. They can also turn to FOX, who they already have a relationship with.

I'm getting my information from someone in the US, so I don't know exact details. I've asked him to scan it in, but he hasn't got back to me yet.

Re: Official Wrestling DVD Discussion Thread - Volume VIII

i'm guessing the WWE DVD distribution won't effect Canada since KOCH does it, but i noticed lately that all the ppvs this year and few other dvds (Edge, HIAC, IC title) have the US number on the spine instead of KOCH printed.

Only thing different now are that the back of the case has a Canadian rating sticker on it whereas of course the US version doesn't.

I have that as well, I just went through it. No mention of a SvS anthology, but there is an ad for the SvS FYE Tin, maybe whoever saw it got it mixed up with an anthology.

Actually WWE beat UFC and they are currently tied at 1 and 1 until march of '09 when UFC plans to release another Compilation title, Best of 2008.

WM24 was released way before UFC's Ultimate comebacks and by all counts WWE's content looked much better then UFC's, Mainly because wwe's was new content and ufc chose to release older matches.

I never watched WCW and I can guarantee it is better then the Kane DVD. A Brooklyn Brawler DVD would be better then a Kane DVD.

On that note, I will purchase the Starrcade DVD and look forward to seeing what I never watched.
