edit: It's the documents feature. After you sign in, you can click Documents or go here http://docs.google.com/?pli=1#
Then you can do, new spreadsheet.
If anyone really wants online only hosting that isn't going to go under, you're better off getting your own site(free or paid). Even google gives you some space for a web page and you can make your collection look however you want.

Get a google account and use their version of excel and then you'll have an excel sheet online.

Excel and Google will likely always be around.

The forum is closed until whenever.
I wouldn't use it as my primary collection. For something that's been around for 4 years, it's really missing a lot.

I just converted and uploaded the CSV to DVD Locate and got this back:
Total number of movies imported: 1425
Number of movies not in database: 669
Number of movies in database but without discs: 6
Clicking thru, here was what was on the FIRST PAGE of unfound films alone:
As the young kids on the Internet would say...
EPIC FAIL!!!
There's a reason why we haven't heard of this site before. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I DLed a copy of DVD Profiler to mess with before shelling out for the thing. I resent that it's $18 more to synch to a PDA. WTF?!?

Even if Profiler did die- you would always have your collection, you could continue to add titles on your own, and you can always export to excel.

I don't mind adding an occasional title, I added like 80 in a year or so on DVDspot. But to me, the main advantage of any of these programs/websites is to not have to add all that info for each of my titles. A group effort, with a few thousand of us constantly working to make sure the database is up-to-date, is what we all want, right?

True. But seriously, if that happened, would you still use it? Maybe if there were absolutely no alternatives.

For me, it only goes into my collection if the exact UPC (or Disc ID) of the title I have is in a database. Even if the exact title is in a certain database, and just a different UPC, I will not add it. I'm not sure what the collection feature at IMDB is, but I doubt it is by DVD UPC.

I imported my whole list into DVD Profiler and it didn't toss any errors and it even had the oddball Bandai Entertainment titles I had just submitted to DVD Spot. I don't have the hi-rez artwork (due to its yo-ho-ho provenance) but everything seems in place and the cast database pulling titles with selected actors seems cool like DVD Spot's, so what's the stuff that people like Kory aren't liking about it, other than it's not free and not stored on the web?

I've transferred all of my DVDs to DVD Aficionado. Some of them, the UPC or details don't match up, but the general DVD is correct. Several where I had Target or Best Buy Exclusive Bonus DVDs weren't on there, so I just added the normal edition.
I still have about 40 DVDs that I need to add to DVD Aficionado's Database, but I really don't feel like doing it.

And let me just say, what a shitty, SHITTY submission form. Most counter-intuitive thing I've ever seen. It probably makes sense to one person - the person who created it.

My only problem with Profiler-can't speak for everyone-is that it takes forever and a day to add a new title. All sorts of verification and back up is needed. god forbid you miss a trademark or copyright logo and you get eviscerated. I gave up adding anything to the database; instead, I just create a new title in my own collection with UPC and wait for someone else to do it.

It should only take a day for a new title to be approved so that others can download it.
It isn't required that you include artwork with your contribution. There is a little check box right before you submit that you can uncheck.
Really the major thing they are very picky about is cast/crew. This should only come from the credits of the actual film/tv series and not copied from 3rd party databases such as IMDB. That's done for legal reasons.
All you have to do is include a note in your contribution notes on where the data comes from especially the cast/crew data. Something like "All data from the films actual credits as found on the dvd".

^ I wasn't talking about being approved. I was talking about documenting where information came from.
I also understand why it couldn't come right from the IMDb. It's a lengthy process to get everything there and, frankly, I don't have time for it.

You can download & copy cast/crew data from another profile(of the same title) and submit that. All you have to do is state that in your notes.
Just be careful about including uncredited cast from the copied profile.
(Sorry misunderstood your post).

export help
Can someone explain to me (simple terms, please) how to save my listings from DVD Spot? I know it says by membership tools and then export but where does it go then?
I tried twice and can't find my collection to save and possibly print.
Much thanks.
Yes...I'm an internet dummie.

Just to clarify, it will be a .csv file, not .cvs file. If it's not in your My Documents folder, you can do a Start->Search->All files and folders and type *.csv into the "All or part of the file name:" box.
