Paul Newman on DVD: Still more work to be done...

The only positive thing to come out of the sad event of Paul Newman passing away is if they would FINALLY make his films that are not yet on DVD available in this format. I nominate The Prize (1963), one of the most perfect Hitchcock clones ever devised.

Can I place a request for the Newman-directed The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds? Puhlease.

Sometimes a Great Notion (1971) and WUSA (1970) are the two I've been waiting for...

I humbly request some sort of, any sort of upgrade of The Hudsucker Proxy. The disc doesn't even have a trailer. That, a remaster, deleted scenes, and a new featurette would be solid work in my book.

Warner Bros have said that The Prize is on its way to DVD. Was supposed to be this year, but probably early next year.

As for Sometimes a Great Notion, well with Universal in charge, I can't see much hope for it.

I would also like to see Until They Sail, The Rack and the Helen Morgan Story out on DVD. But that is fairly unlikely.

Quintet is in Fox's Altman collection; not available seperately so far, but the set is hardly expensive and is almost worth the price for Quintet alone.

I know that Newman hated his performance in the film, but I'd like to see The Silver Chalice on DVD. It was featured briefly on the recent Warner Brothers documentary and the deliberately unreal look of the film seemed really interesting.

I read that he only disliked the look of his legs in the film - apparently too scrawny for a tunic - even though he looked fine in a towel in The Prize. The Silver Chalice also has a fine "biblical" score by Franz Waxman,.
