Just put the Quadrilogy set on Blu-ray already.

Aliens running around on modern day Earth = FAIL.
For AvP they should have gone with story from the first Dark Horse Aliens vs Predator series. It takes place on an alien world and maintains the "feel" of the first two Alien movies.

This set is pathetic on so many levels. I still don't have AVP:R because it was a piece of crap. AVP was barely watchable. It's pretty weak that they're dropping all the 2nd discs in this set. Oh well, you already know there's going to be another set after AVP3 comes out next year.

I feel AVPR was at least in keeping with how the characters are supposed to be represented. On the other hand, AVP totally crapped on the entire continuity of the Alien series for starters. I mean, AVP takes place in our present while Alien takes place in our future. How the hell are they supposed to be "aliens" when they've been living on earth for thousands of years? That is just the start of my complaints about AVP (let's not get started on the lame pyramid thing) but I don't really want to go there since I know some of you guys love the movie.
AVPR had horrible lighting (the worst I've ever seen) and some groan inducing dialogue but at least you cheered when one of the corny humans bit the dust. Not to mention the fact that the Predator & Alien creatures act violent and without any care for humans as they should.

A lot worse? Unless Whoopi Goldberg made a cameo appearance I don't see how. Daniel Pearl should have his head chopped off for doing such a poor job.

Wikipedia has an interesting writing and timeline where the AVP film can fit in with the Alien series. In AVP, the alien race was still unknown to humans.
However, AVPR was just horrible. It totally disregarded the franchise history, and the lighting was so dark that I couldn't tell what was going on during most of the film. At least, AVP had some cool scenes and a great buildup.

I disagree. The only reason why AVPR also craps on the Alien timeline is because the sequel had to follow AVP in continuity (which screwed it up first) since Fox wanted a direct sequel to AVP. I'm sure the guys who directed it probably wouldn't have chosen to go that route since they mention on the AVPR disc how they are die hard fans of the series and tried to undo some of the mistakes made in the last film (making it more violent and getting rid of the football player like Predators for instance). Not to mention the fact that the budget was limited so that rules out it taking place on another planet or some exotic locale. I believe this was their first major film so they didn't want to rock the boat and have Fox kick them off the movie.
Sure there were some interesting scenes in AVP just as there were some in AVPR but taking them both as a whole AVPR is more true to character than the mess AVP was.

However, here's the reason why AVPR is terrible and even worse than AVP. It's so dark, you can't see ANYTHING. They had a good thing going, and then made it so you can't see a damn thing. Awful, just awful.

My take on the film, is that it WAS much better than AVP... when you're looking at what's going on in the film. You had more 'suits' and more violence and more of an 'Aliens' and 'Predator' feel than the overly computerized and stupid assed story in AVP. It was more along the lines of what I wanted out of an AVP film... well as close as I'd get. If I had it my way, we'd follow the Dark Horse comics or the novels more.

Well I got the AvP:R Blu-Ray for a mere $12 and while not the best it certainly wasn't the worst. While in the dark was a bit to much I mean what do you want, sunset, mid-afternoon, early morning....
Along the way some new cool Predator toys and some good scenes. I thought the idea of one Predator against a whole swarm of Aliens was strange at first but this one kicked butt!
With the ending you've got to know it left the door open for a third but for which director and what plot?

How many films have scenes in the dark so you can see what's going on? Who wants to pay to see almost literally, a black screen for an hour and a half? What do you mean what do I want? I want to see what I paid for!

I found the movie very good. It was a HUGE improvement from the first, but I did like the first AvP too. It's got a better storyline and overall a better movie. I don't understand people saying it's too dark. You all must have crap TV's, i see everything crystal clear.

Better storyline? It's a bigger piece of shit than the first one simply because the directors had a blueprint for EXACTLY what not to do in an AVP film, then they managed to make it worse. At least some of the characters in AVP were somewhat likeable, like Lance Henriksen. AVP:R played out like a bad episode of Dawson's Creek. I still have yet to buy the DVD, but I might get the BR someday when I get a player.

^ In all honesty, that red-band promo reel they released a few months before the film came out had all the best footage in it. The film would have kicked ass if they trimmed it down to 12 minutes.

Well there's clearly gonna be people that like it and people that despise it, back to the DVD set, which is a waste, since a lot of us already got the Quadrilogy :P

Man, you are so wrong. AVPR crapped on the series. AVP explained how the aliens visited earth, but no one knew about them. It was all kept secret at the pyramid.
The explosion also kept the alien race secret so AVP could fit in the Canon if you want this movie first. AVPR can not fit. It is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Again I disagree. AVP was the one who screwed up Alien continuity first and the second only followed it. Again, how can they be Aliens if they've been on Earth for thousands of years?
SPOILER WARNING:
.

.
.
Actually, AVPR doesn't screw up continuity because almost everyone who knew about the Aliens or Predator were destroyed.

SPOILER OVER!
I stand by my judgemest of liking AVPR better and that is all it is, a personal opinion. To me it feels more true to the characters and I enjoy that you wanted most of the humans to die as well as the wacky dialogue.
