BFI Dracula Trailer

On You Tube there is a stunning trailer for a new - well actually 2007 - print of the classic Hammer movie Dracula ( known in the US as Horror Of Dracula ) from the BFI (British Film Institute) I really hope that this makes it to DVD as it looks excellent with great colour/picture clarity - does anyone out there know about /or has seen this new print struck last year?

no, can't say that I have seen the new print, but a movie looks like this particularily Hammer films which have wide range of colours - dark blacks, saturated reds (blood) - one hopes a HiDef transfer was done as well.

well... as it turns out, if you get MonstersHD, 'Horror of Dracula' is getting shown with a whole slew of Vampire movies on the 29th of August at 4:45PM and 2:30AM (30th) EST.

I do have the original Horror of Dracula DVD which is a great movie. The DVD that I have is acceptable but a restored, remastered DVD will be something that I could not pass up. Please someone post a release date for this when it becomes known.

P.S.- What is MonstersHD? I would be very interested in getting this channel if available in my area. I have never heard of the channel before.

I've been collecting Hammer horror for awhile now, and a much improved Dracula (not to mention The Curse of Frankenstein) would be fantastic. With a restored and properly-framed picture and some decent extras (commentary that includes Lee, a retrospective doc), I'd be more than willing to lay down some scratch for it.

I just registered on their web site. I'm going to call my cable company to see if it's available. I've been waiting forever for a channel like this.

There were theatrical showings of the restored 'Dracula' throughout the UK last year, a new print in London, while the rest of United Kingdom had digital showings - it looked absolutely fantastic.

There's a little controversy over the restoration and who did what, but what is certain is that it was a joint venture between Warner and the BFI - can't wait for the new DVD.

Does this mean we might possibly expect a R2 BFI edition?

No, Warner holds the UK Home Video rights (and apparently, did the lions share of the restoration). I fully expect Warner to come up with an SE both sides of the Atlantic; in fact, I had high hopes for this year, but maybe not.

I, too, was hoping for an Oct release this year as well, but I suppose we're getting a bit late for that, especially since this would hopefully be considered a major release.

Ah well, I guess we'll have Universal's Hammer Horror collection to tide us over, but still, Dracula is the big one.

Just to clarify, which Dracula DVD movie release are you talking about?

Agreed but, are we sure it's too late for them to release this by the mid to end of October?

Just chedked out the trailer...looks great! If the rest of the print is as clean as this trailer I will be undone! Now, I'm gonna get greedy and hope that they revisit all of Lee's Dracula films and treat them similarly. Any news on that front?

From DVDSavant's latest column:

Muir Hewitt has tipped me off to a new UK disc of Dracula (Horror of Dracula) coming soon
Hopefully we're looking a US disc, too!

the best thing is if the film is released both on standard and bluray (I'd buy it even if the latter is an import)

Blimey; I suppose it's possible that Warner's UK rights have lapsed and a disc may be coming from the BFI. I'm curious to know more...and I'm rather excited...

Re: BFI Dracula Trailer

I have no idea if this is sourced from the new hidef restoration but the 'instant play' version of the film from Netflix states it's hidefinition - this I simply have to check out !!!!!
