Permanent Midnight - 7/29/08

Saw a listing on Amazon for Permanent Midnight to be released for a second time on July 29th. I have the previous release that had a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and was supposedly anamorphic. This new release is listed as a 2.35:1. Which ratio is correct?

This is one of my favorite Ben Stiller movies. Does anybody know anything about this pending release?

amazon always lists incorrect information so i wouldn't trust the 2.35:1....imdb (which isn't always accurate either) lists it as being 1.85:1

I would imagine its just a re-release with no new extras like the recent re-releases of Secretary and The Minus man with new cover art.

Perhaps it's bundled with an Alf, I mean "Mr. Chompers", doll.

Awesome movie that I always recommend to friends. The book of the same name authored by Jerry Stahl is fun reading too. I just watched it again this past weekend. Stiller jabbed a needle into the side of his neck for this role. Also lost a ton of weight too. Liz Hurley doesn't hurt either.

They really, really blew it in the film by not including the scene from the book where Stahl is wandering around L.A. during the Rodney King riots, all smacked out and oblivious. The logistics might have been a bit much for the film's modest budget though. Also, putting "Smack My Bitch Up" on the soundtrack of a film that takes place in the 80s was a bit jarring.

I just read the review over at dvdverdict, where the reviewer states:

Note: Permanent Midnight comes in a cardboard sleeve with the Lionsgate logo on the back. However, the package for the disc itself has different art, and still has the Artisan Entertainment logo on it (as does the DVD itself). In other words, I'm guessing that this release is the exact same as the previous R1 DVD of Permanent Midnight that came out in 1999, so those who own it already shouldn't be fooled by the fancy-looking cardboard sleeve.

If this is indeed accurate, then to Lionsgate.
