MGM did the same thing last year when they released Scarecrows and The Burning... You couldn't find them anywhere and only a few online retailers carried them.

Their distrubution is so wacked.

asianxcore 09-09-08 06:55 PM

Damn forgot this was out today :(

SLASHFACE 09-09-08 07:35 PM

Didn't see this or Child's Play anywhere today. I'm really sick of having to HUNT these things down.

TomOpus 09-09-08 08:06 PM

Not gonna hunt it down. Ordered it on Amazon.

Done.

Ditto on ordering Pumpkinhead. Though I noticed that while Child's Play was just released today it shows that Amazon won't get it in stock until October 11th.

MrStayPuft 09-09-08 10:51 PM

Ordered mine off Amazon as well. Glad I was able to grab one of 3 copies of Child's Play at Target, since it won't be available via Amazon for a while.

Paul1957 09-09-08 10:53 PM

Amazon must of got a lot of orders today, now temporarily out of stock.

TomOpus 09-09-08 11:30 PM

That didn't take long. WTG MGM.

islandclaws 09-10-08 12:35 AM

I'm going to try my local Fry's on Thurs. Hopefully they still have a few copies left. If not the guy at DVD Planet told me they should get some in this week, he just didn't know when.

Goddamn you, MGM!

ReduxGuy 09-10-08 02:02 AM

Unfortunately, the only FYC in Houston shut down a while back. Damn damn damn.

So I'm gonna have to try when I go up to Savannah next week.

Does anyone know if there is any special packaging (lenticular, etc.) or store exclusives for Pumpkinhead? I usually get movies the day they come out so I don't miss out, but it seems like it may be a while before I get this.

sparks 09-10-08 11:48 AM

Had it in my hands at Frys. The back says...1.85:1 widescreen. Nothing about it being "ANAMORPHIC!!!"

I'll let someone else be the guinea pig to see if it's anamorphic. It's a bitch trying to do a return at Frys!!!

mgm/fox releases rarely mention anamorphic or 16x9...i'm sure it is though.

Fox, who distributes all of MGM's product, long ago stopped mentioning "anamorphic" on their DVDs. Perhaps it is done by an automated system that is glitching and nobody cares to fix it -- when I picked up the Coen Brothers box set, Raising Arizona says it's anamorphic on the back of the slimcase, and it's the only one in the set that is not. It's also like the only non-anamorphic release from Fox that I've known of since they've owned MGM's catalog, and it's the only release since then I've seen to mention anamorphic enhancement.

The Monkees 09-10-08 01:14 PM

I really wanted this so I paid extra for 2 day delivery, it shipped from Amazon yesterday. It's supposedly going to be here tomorrow.

OldBoy 09-10-08 02:52 PM

is this a good movie and are there any reviews for the new DVD anywhere? i remember it being on and i maybe watched a little of the beginning, but don't think it held my interest and turned it off.

I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember it being a very good movie. As for reviews I haven't seen any. I liked the second one too, but part 3 I turned off after about 10-15 minutes. Never even bothered with part 4.

man*machine 09-10-08 04:15 PM

Just curious - was the old release P&S or open-matte?

islandclaws 09-10-08 05:26 PM

^ Open-matte.

And scott1598: it rocks. One of the best creature films, and Winston designs, ever.

sounds good. in-stock @ and just ordered from B&N with 3-day for $12.65 total using a couple coupons and stuff. not too bad i think.

are there any special features that looks back on Stan's designs and stuff?

look forward to watching a double-feature with "Child's Play"!!

The Monkees 09-10-08 06:27 PM

Amazingly I got my copy today, just ordered it yesterday from Amazon! I'm glad I didn't cough up the extra money for one day since I got it in one day anyway!

It has an hour long documentary, had no clue it was an hour long. The stuff on Child's Play is only about 25 minutes. I'm watching the documentary right now.

congrats on your nice score! mine will be here fri. let us know how the doc is.

The Monkees 09-10-08 07:46 PM

The documentary was pretty good, though they had a far too long part about the production design. I guess if you're into that kind of thing it's cool, but I'm not into production design.

The last part is about Stan Winston and I found it interesting that the documentary ends with "Stan Winston: 1946-2008" since he died shortly before this release, but they were able to squeeze that in. Stan Winston apparently had nothing to do with this collector's edition, there are no interviews with him for the documentary.

Also, I was a little saddened by the fact that the only audio is Dolby Surround, no 5.1 mix. Child's Play had a 5.1 mix, but not this. Oh well! At least it's anamorphic widescreen finally and it looks better than the crappy full screen DVD in picture quality.

Thank you for posting this. I just wrote to Amazon yesterday and asked for a refund because of the price drop. They granted it and dropped my order total down to the $13.99! Point is I never would of known it if you hadn't of posted the reduced rate. Thanks.

Paul1957 09-11-08 11:28 AM

^^^Glad they dropped the price Joe. Cd Universe has it in stock for 14.79.

OldBoy 09-11-08 07:44 PM

Rubix 09-12-08 03:41 AM

I think I'll wait as well. I broke down and rented the old version a couple of months ago. The movie is great but the transfer was awful. I do want the movie but my jones for watching it has been temporarily quenched.

MrStayPuft 09-12-08 03:10 PM

Whoohoo! Mine just shipped from Amazon, I bought it the night before it went out of stock.

OldBoy 09-12-08 05:29 PM

monkees,
did your copy have a slipcover? mine didn't and had that lenticular eye on the wrapping. i took it off easily and put it inside the case, but thought it odd it wasn't packaged like CP.

islandclaws 09-12-08 06:08 PM

FYI for all L.A. Pumpkinhead fans: Alec Gillis, Tom Woodruff Jr. and some other dude (I think the producer) will be at Dark Delicacies signing the new disc at 2pm this Sunday. Might be worth the trip for those who can't find it anywhere.

No, mine didn't have a slipcover either. I thought it was weird it didn't.

JOE29 09-12-08 11:14 PM

Mine did not have a slip cover either, but it had the eye on the outside package.

RD1973 09-13-08 01:13 PM

Did anyone who ordered Pumpkinhead online get a slipcover? It seems like no one has, so far. This is exactly why I'm waiting to get mine at an actual store.

uh..there probably isn't one with this release, online or otherwise.

RickWJ324 09-13-08 02:35 PM

Why is this and Child's Play so hard to find in stores? I've been to Walmart, Best Buy, Circuit City, Barnes + Noble, and Target. I managed to find 2 copies of Child's Play at Target, but no Pumpkinhead. Also, DeepDiscount doesn't even have it listed for sale??? WTF?

If you check the Border's website, it describes it as having a lenticular slip cover. But I'm afraid it will arrive without it or it will be damaged.

islandclaws 09-13-08 05:54 PM

From what I've heard the Pumpkinhead DVD does NOT have a slipcover.

MrStayPuft 09-13-08 10:44 PM

You know, I think people are just assuming it comes with a lenticular slipcover because of the original cover art, it was very similar to the re-release MGM put out last Oct (the same fullscreen dvd just with a lenticular slipcover)

Once they changed the cover art, maybe they just dropped the slipcover.
