How many DVD's are in existence?
I'm wondering if there is a stat somewhere that states how many commercial DVD's have been released and sold in the history of the SD medium...

About 130,000 or so.
Full list of titles in Excel format:

(Which includes titles that were cancelled, mulitple releases of the same movie, etc.) The number probably drops to 100k or so if you drop all of that stuff. Maybe even lower...

If you were to remove the UMD/HD DVD/Blu-ray titles (in addition to the canceled/postponed DVDs), you could get a more accurate number. But if you mentally shave a few thousand off for that, you've got a pretty solid ballpark with 135k.

DVDProfiler has their database currently at:
329,305 standard dvds. This is for all regions, including no region.
They have 4868 Blu-Ray and HD DVDs in their database for all regions, and 1340 for Region 1.
Their Region 1 number for standard dvds was 74,543. I'm sure there are more than 74k titles released though.
These numbers make my collection look like a joke.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
According to Home Media Magazine, there are 87,042 titles in release as of June 13, 2008. I believe this includes R1 only.
There are also 557 domestic Blu-ray titles in release.

Their database is member drive much like dvdspot. It's anyones guess as to how complete their listings are, regardless of region. That number also includes all ratings, including porn, nc-17, and not-rated. I also recall seeing a few anime bootlegs listed in their database, so I'm sure that number is not entirely accurate. It does give some idea as to the sheer amount of dvds that have been released commercially.
