Code Red is rereleasing Popcorn (1991) but there is a review on Amazon.com stating there's a better version coming by another company. Does anyone know if there is actually another version coming out next year?
Writer Kristy Jett (HorrorHound Magazine) is working on a Popcorn dvd re-release and retrospective documentary to be released in 2012!

Thanks. From their site I see it's being released by Video Nasty Productions. Never heard of them. Will this version be available at regular retail like Amazon?

Also (as was mentioned) this Fan Edition is not being put out by Code Red. This is straight from the Facebook Page mentioned on the flier I posted.
www.facebook.com/popcornmovie
"We want to make it clear that this IS NOT our release. Our release will not be out until 2012. Code Red is still not responding to any of the legal paperwork and warnings that have been sent their way. Not to mention their release (if they decide to proceed) will be equivalent to the Elite release from 2001"
"Once again, Code Red does not have the legal rights to release Popcorn. They claim they bought the rights from Elite Entertainment who never owned the rights in the first place. They are trying to push their release quickly to compete with ours. Remember a release called Rituals? They did the same thing then, they're trying to do it now. This is typical behavior for them..."

Take it for what it is but this was posted on their Facebook Page:
"Cannot wait to finally release the info about who our distributor is! In the meantime just get excited about the new high def transfer from the original camera negative! It goes without saying that Blu Ray is happening! Remember that s**t DVD you've been stuck with for years? Get ready to be blown away by what we have coming "
Looks like there is a lot going down between Code Red's release of Popcorn and this Fan Edition.

Oh, cool. I was just going by that ad, which only showed a DVD and didn't mention Blu-ray.

Well, Popcorn had been slated for 11/29 I believe, but now it's been delayed indefinitely. No explanation on the blog or official web site beyond simply deleting it from Coming Soon. Meanwhile, retailer preorders listings are dropping like flies. Maybe it's explained on their Twitter but I don't feel like wading through their tweets.
Btw, I recently listened to this Deadpit podcast from 2008 interviewing Bill Olsen of Code Red. They start bitching about DVD Talk around 30:38.

I don't know why they're singling out DVD Talk. Some of their Code Red review have struck me as more lenient! I don't remember how or when I discovered DVD Talk, but the reason it's my to-go site is because they're usually detailed about factors like specs & bonus features (I like to hear opinions on commentaries & such.) Most DVD reviews I read... they're mostly about the film; infuriates me when I want to know about the changes on a reissued or updated DVD and all they write is another fucking film synopsis.

Host: "There's one site out there in particular, DVD Talk, I don't even know why they review B horror movies. Because every one o' them's negative. Like, all o' them, it doesn't matter what it is."
Bill: "Yeah, they gave me a D- on a couple of titles."

Are both versions of Popcorn in jeopardy?
I cannot help but notice that fan version facebook page isn't there anymore either.
I want that blu ray!

Last post (10/27)=
We are pleased to announce that Code Red's distributor sent out a press release yesterday saying that their Popcorn release is delayed due to "circumstances beyond their control" with no definite release date. Hmmm, perhaps the legal implications of releasing an illegal DVD caught up with them?

Thanks asianxcore.
That link would just default to facebook.com yesterday. Glad that it was just a temporary snafu and that release seems to be on track.

Nice to see The Severed Arm being released.
I have a German Hartbox version of it that I bought a couple years ago, but it would be nice to have a Domestic release in my collection.

And from Popcorn's FB page:
Had a great talk with our producer Michael Felsher today at HorrorHound Weekend here in Cincinnati. He assured me that slowly but surely things are coming together. I am so sorry for all of the delays but it IS happening. As soon as all the t's and crossed and the i's are dotted we can talk more details about this spectacular blu ray and dvd release. It will be worth the wait x 1000000000.

Hmm, scheduled for Feb./Mar. Question is, what year? Probably five years from now at the earliest, if past Code Red performance is any predictor.

The Babysitter? I thought Mill Creek had the rights to all the Crown International releases.

Okaaay... surprise surprise, Ghostkeeper appears to be discontinued/delayed.
But more retailers are listing 2/28's Popcorn for preorder, so that one might still be a go.

Code Red's distributor might be going under, so grab what you want, I'm sure they'll be even harder to find soon.
