^Are you serious? SO a 90+ minute film and a 160 minute documentary on one disk...goddamn! I am gonna have to buy this one...
Wenstien/genius know how to take good care of some of their titles. They already get my vote for major studio of the year in terms of dvd releases.

Sorry I'm stupid The Documentary runs 80 minutes.Gave it a quick run through last night I was tired and got my time codes mixed up. Watch it this morning. It's a great documentary though.

I was debating over picking this up on release day because I was ready to like it and I'm a big fan of Romero the previous Dead films, but I decided to borrow a friends first who picked up that copy with the Zen book.

I watched it last night and I can't think of being more disappointed from a film.

I hated it from "I added music to the video to scare you, I want this movie to scare you," or whatever it was. I also felt that the acting and dialogue completely took me out of the "reality" that the whole faux-documentary was supposed to convey.
Also, I thought all the media criticism was way too damn heavy handed and cheesy.

I wish I never watched it.

You can edit your original post and correct that.

I thought it was alright. The zombie kills and whatnot really made up for its flaws in my eyes -- Land was pretty uninspired in that area and even Dawn 04 didn't really have that many inventive kills. The subtext was pretty blatant, but it was mainly the narration that caused that problem for me. Had the film been presented basically the same, minus the narration (and a couple of the dumber jokes), the film would have been way better.

Better than Land, worse than the other Romeros. And given the output we've gotten recently, like the Day remake, can we really complain about this flawed but entertaining movie?

I thought it was the worst of all the Romero Dead films. I liked "Land" a lot. I even loved the remake of "Dawn".

Still, Diary wasn't "horrible"... just not up to standard. And I hated the CGI effects.

I got my copy yesterday and watched it right away, I loved it. Can't see where all the hate comes from.

Me either. It's a very low budget indie horror flick. I mean, it is a little bit heavy handed, but what Romero flick isn't? Romero does what he does best, and doesn't look back.

I enjoyed it too. Not Romero's best but I thought it's good.

Just picked mine up from K-Mart.

I'm hoping to watch it this weekend during the 3 hour car ride to our weekend vacation destination.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. The message behind the movie could have been more subtle but it worked. For a zombie movie at least it's exploring new ground and rather inventive for the genre.

Also, being a native of Pennsylvania it was awesome to hear nods to Scranton and Danville of all places. However some of the geography was wrong. Granted they don't tell you how long the footage was but to drive form Pittsburgh to Scranton would take at least 5 hours. And the drive from Scranton to West Virginia is way over 80 miles lol. 80 miles wouldn't even get you to Philly or NY. I checked google maps and it's more like 400 miles.

I grabbed one today at CC. I had a GC, plus it was only $13.99 and came with some cool postcards. I wasn't a big fan of the film in theaters, but I'm hoping once I revisit it on DVD I'll warm up to it a bit.

I think I would have LOVED this movie had all the extra dialog been deleted. I think it would have been a much better zombie flick if it ran only 60 minutes. There were some really creepy scenes. The only problem was that they were dragged down by too much talking and "preachiness".

I was wondering about the Scranton - West Virginia thing myself. I thought it was wrong, but was too lazy to check it out.

Need some help here.
As of today June 22 I have not been able to find this movie as a rental at HOLLYWOOD VIDEO. They looked on their computer and said they don't carry it. I have not seen it at REDBOX also. I will check BLOCKBUSTER next. Anybody rented it?

Aren't Weinstein Company movies exclusive to Blockbuster?

I'm pretty sure they just have an exclusive time window, like 6 months or something like that.

I just got the UK 2-disc Diary of The Dead, and the 90 minute Romero documentary is the same as the one on the new R1 Night Of The Living Dead documentary, "One for the Fire: The Making of Night Of The Living Dead"

I ended up not having to double dip NOTLD disc.
