BIRD-2-Disk (1988 Clint Eastwood) (7-22-08)

WB continues to roll out Eastwood this year.
I see DVD empire has a pre-order up for a 2-disk edition of Bird. This is the first I've heard of it.
The film of course if Clint's bio pic of jazz great Charlie Parker.
I wonder if this will be a special edition or if the 2nd disk is just a soundtrack CD or something.

Haven't seen this movie in a long while -- looking forward to checking it out on DVD.

Outstanding film and truly a product of Clint's obsession with Jazz music. Hopefully this one comes to BR as well as the soundtrack features some remarkable Parker arrangements.

Wasn't this already out as a single disc?

An underrated masterwork from Eastwood released in 1988. Quite a surprising release from Warner.

I've only seen this film once - liked it, but much prefered "Round Midnight" and Dexter Gordon's amazing performance in that film.

Didn't they do some odd re-recordings for "Bird" - something like taking Parker's recorded sax lines and then re-recording all the other players?

I still can't find any more details on specs but amazon already has this at 48% off the list price.

Edit: Judging by the picture on Amazon's website it does indeed look like the second disk of this will be a CD sampler. Hopefullly the movie disk will have extras. I guess we will see.

What's always bothered me about this film is that there weren't any black people in it.
Spike Lee told me so.

I recall when this film was released that there was a huge amount of criticism that Eastwood focused too much on Bird's drug usage and not enough on the music; from every reference on Bird I've ever read, with testimonials from his closest colleagues, Parker was a HUGE addict and Eastwood chose not to shy away from that. It appears he couldn't get a break even back then.
