VHS- ET, my mom bought it before we even had a player because it was on sale "for a limited time."
DVD- Terminator 2, the Matrix, and Eraser. There was a 4th that I can't recall, maybe Lethal Weapon 4?

DVD: 12 Monkeys
HD DVD: Hot Fuzz
VHS: I bought so few and yet I can't recall what one was first. Maybe it was Doc Savage Man of Bronze.

VHS - I remember when my parents bought our very first VHS player back in 1982; it was $1200! They could only afford to buy 2 movies for it, at $100 a piece - one was Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon", and the other was the very first home video release of "Star Wars".
DVD - First 2 DVDs were "Mystery Men" and "South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut", both favorites of mine!

Re: What were your first VHS/Betamax/Laserdisc/DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray titles?
This current thread
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk/58...-received.html
made me look up threads about VHS and I found this one. Sorry to revive such an old thread.
VHS
X-Men Creators Choice #1: Night of the Sentinels
X-Men Creators Choice #2: Enter Magneto
X-Men Vol.4: Captive Hearts
X-Men Vol.5: Cold Vengeance
X-Men Vol.6: Slave Island
After that I got some actual films "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" , "The Fugitive", "Speed", "Indecent Proposal", "Predator", "Predator 2", ect,.
DVD
Godzilla: King of The Monsters
Rodan
Godzilla vs. Mothra
Tenchi Universe: Volume 1
Tenchi Universe: Volume 2
Lots more anime followed before I ever got around to buying actual films.
Blu-ray
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: Diamond Edition (Blu-ray/DVD combo in DVD packaging)
This is still the only Blu-ray that I have. Still haven't watched it as I don't have a Blu-ray player.

Re: What were your first VHS/Betamax/Laserdisc/DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray titles?
Super 8: Sniffles Takes a Trip, starring Sniffles the Mouse (remember him?)
CED: That's Entertainment
VHS: Night of the Living Dead
Beta: I'm not absolutely sure. I bought several MGM/UA titles cheaply (and I bought them BECAUSE they were cheap), only to get home and discover that only one of them was a VHS tape--the rest were Beta. (In my defense, they were all in the oversized clamshell boxes, with only a sticker at the base of the spine noting what the format was.) At the time, I only owned a VHS deck. I think that one of the titles was Strike Up the Band. I dumped them all for a buck each at a garage sale.
Laserdisc: I think it was The Crying Game, a Christmas present from my brother, designed to get me to finally buy a Laserdisc player.
DVD: Scream -- a Christmas present from the aforementioned brother, for the same general reason: to kick-start me into a new home entertainment medium.
HD-DVD: The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy -- they came with the player.
Blu-ray: In the Realm of the Senses -- Criterion Collection
I still own all of these EXCEPT Night of the Living Dead (which I upgraded first to Laserdisc and then DVD), those Beta tapes, and The Crying Game, which I upgraded first to a widescreen Laserdisc and then to DVD.
I own WAY too much crap.

Re: What were your first VHS/Betamax/Laserdisc/DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray titles?
VHS: The first one I remember was something called Superbook, an anime program with Bible themes -- a gift from my super religious aunt, as I recall. I remember receiving ET for Christmas the year it was first released on VHS. Also, the Disney Classics like Bambi and Cinderella.
DVD: The Dark Crystal, EdTV, The Wedding Singer, Starship Troopers, Dark City
Blu-ray: Torchwood: The Complete First Season, Iron Man, Dreamgirls, Pinocchio, Pushing Daises seasons 1 & 2

I don't remember the first VHS our family bought. Probably a Disney release.
DVD: I went to Best Buy on Christmas of 1999 and bought my first DVD player along with Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, and X-Men.
Blu-Ray: I went Blu last Sept. and bought The Dark Knight and Terminator 2.

OK, since I upgraded to Blu-Ray...
Watchmen the Ultimate Cut was my first Blu-Ray. It was a HUGE motivation for me to buy the player and make the switch.
