VHS (1980s):

DVD (July 2002, bought infrequently until 2004):
- Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
- Family Guy Volume 1
- Simpsons Season 1
- WWF: NWO Back in Black (picked it up new for $6, it's like $60 on eBay now)
- WWF: Hulk Still Rules (got it new for $2.50 :))

EdTheRipper 03-22-08 09:15 PM

Pretty sure the first VHS I bought was ET. I remember the first rentals were The Dogs of War and Back to the Future.

As for dvd, the day I bought my first dvd player, I bought Scream, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Insomnia, Jason X and The Sum of All Fears.

DVD: Boogie Nights (the first version), Contact, L.A. Confidential

HD DVD: The Phantom of the Opera, Apollo 13, Goodfellas

BD: The Last Waltz, Speed, Chicago

Rex Power Colt-Robot Man 03-22-08 09:19 PM

Well it's taxing on my memory but here goes.

First VHS was I believe Predator 2. Used. From a Mom and Pop video store. Took me 5 weeks of saving my hard earned allowance to get that sucker. I had other titles before then, but that was the first with my own money.

First DVD was I think Blade Runner in 98 I think.

First Laserdisc was Ghostbusters (WOOT!)

The Monkees 03-22-08 10:40 PM

Well I was born in 1984, so VHS had been around for a while as Laserdiscs had too. The first VHS I bought myself, no clue...

Laserdisc - Sometime in 2002 or so

Halloween: Criterion Collection (from eBay)

DVD - February 28, 1999

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (Still Have This)
The Truman Show (No Longer Have This)

Blu-Ray - March 2007

Scooby Doo

HD-DVD - May 2007

The Mummy
The Mummy Returns
Land of the Dead

DeadMADMAN 03-22-08 11:11 PM

DVD
House on Haunted Hill (1999)
Sleepy Hollow
Night of the Living Dead (1990)

I didn't even have a DVD player when I bought those but I really wanted to see the bonus features and listen to the commentary for HOHH and NOTLD. That Thanksgiving I watched HOHH at my sisters and around Christmas I watched NOTLD. Then on Christmas day I actually got a DVD player. This would have been in 1999.

VHS
E.T.

I think it must have been around 1987. We were the last people I knew to get a VCR.

Everything else
Don't own any other formats.
