Thankfully it's just that room. I can't tell you how many times I've bumped my head on the wall while moving stuff around there.

It's setup that way because there's skylights facing east and west so the sun always shines through. At least that's what the builder told me. I sealed them up since light doesn't work well with projectors so I'll never really know for sure.

That's good you sealed them up, especially if you have your collection in there. If the sun would've shined in there all the time it'd have caused some major fading for sure.

That's true, I never thought of that. Now I remember how some movies at video stores used to look if they were the ones by the window.

Here's my downstairs setup... God those cables are terrible, just imagine the tv mounted over the fireplace. (which hopefully will be a reality soon)

Nice HT setup Artman. The Samsung may "look" nice up over the fireplace, but your neck will probably get sore fast because you'll be looking up all of the time.

Do you ever use your fireplace? If you don't, I suggest maybe just getting a bit taller TV stand that'll be even with your viewing from the couch.

Drums on Rock Band would be nearly impossible if you've got the TV mounted above the fireplace!

I know... I do have a rotating mount, and my couch actually folds out (like a recliner) but I still wouldn't like it as much. That's why I've been hesitant to go for it. Haven't used the fireplace yet...and probably won't till next winter, so I might just leave it for now. Options are somewhat limited with the layout....any suggestions r welcome.

My suggestion is to move the TV to another room and enjoy that fireplace! As someone who does not have a fireplace, I am offended!

Hey all! I've been meaning to get some photos on here, because I've got a rather large living room and I'm not sure what to do with it. I mean, it's been set up this way for a while mom lived here, but now it's mine (all mine!!!! Mwahhahaha!) and I just think I can do something better with it for set up. I'll put collection shots up next post. The measurements are


Viewing the couch area and conversation pit. Probably fill that thing in eventually...water seeps in when heavy rains hit, but not to the point of "pooling." Just makes the carpet feel like walking on wet sponges. NOTE: That's Snoopy in the shot.


Standing in the pit viewing other side. NOTE: Droopy napping in the chair. DOUBLE NOTE: you can see a bit of the upstairs master bedroom "balcony".


NOTE: The couch needs to stay where it is or else the cats might stretch their claws on it. DOUBLE NOTE: Declawing is not option. TRIPLE NOTE: Neither is killing them or kicking them out of the house.


NOTE: Taken from master bedroom upstairs. It's a vaulted ceiling, with it's peak about 35 feet from downstairs, so the sound can bounce around.

Man, what that room needs is a very big projector!

We used to live in a downtown loft. We had 18 foot ceilings, but we were poor so I couldn't afford a projector. Then, one day, my Canon Video sales rep offered to let me borrow their top of the line projector to see if I liked it. I ended up only using it once, to project "Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens" on the wall facing the street with the blinds open. It was awesome.

At my weight, no, I think I'd hurt myself quite nicely. However, it has been done, landing on to a couch we no longer have. Also, I've personally not made the jump, but two or three friends have. I'm pleased there are no footprints. As to a conversation pit: I dunno...just by the name itself I'd say it's a pit where conversation takes place? That's an honest guess that I've said to people. I've never bothered to look it up, until now: conversation pit (noun)– a usually sunken portion of a room or living area with chairs, sofas, etc., often grouped around a fireplace, where people can gather to talk.

As far as a projector, I've considered it, but have no knowledge of them. Money is no object -- sorry, what I meant is money is not an object that I have much of. But maybe I'll let Uncle Bush slip me a little cash toward getting one. Any suggestions? I don't think I can afford anything top of the line (or maybe even mid of the line). So what would be a good midline projector?

Also, any specific room layout ideas? Unfortunately the couch must stay put, which I think I already said.

Yeah but the moisture that that would put in the air might not be good for the DVDs and the electronics which are the main concern, put the jacuzzi in the bedroom.

The shelf is a billy, and yeah I know it sucks for shelving dvds. But as far as record vinyl goes it's perfect.

Hey SledHeavy, welcome to the forum. From what I've seen on here, there's nothing wrong with the Billy shelf units. Quite a few have made use of them, and they were definitely a consideration. You can always buy additional shelves to them. Looks like you can fit at least one more shelf in the current set up, and there's always the extension that would add one more shelf unit in height...

Whotony: indeed, it is a water collector as previously mentioned. Looking at the photo again, I think you can actually see the stain in the carpeting gets darker the closer you get to the window.

Kory: I think the jacuzzi had BRIEFLY crossed my mind, and just as quickly left. I didn't think of the humidity/moisture problem that SterlingBen mentioned though! Another thought was maybe to create some sort of coy pond thingy. Ehhh, but I just know I'd never give it the maintenance and care it needed.

I'd fill the conversation pit in. From what it looks like you have a nice couch. Personally, I can't see using the conversation pit much. Fill it in and you can put a pool table there, or just use the space for more shelving or something.

EDIT: And thanks for answering my question about the jumping. If I had a set-up like that, I would totally put a mat in the middle of the floor and use it to jump onto, but I guess that's just the inner-child in me.
